View Full Version : What's the current plan on converting movs to avi/windows usage?

Hey,

So a friend of mine asked me to shoot something for him on my EX1 recently, which I did. At the end he asked for the BPAV's, which I gave him, and myself only bothered storing the mov files.

He's since 'misplaced' the BPAV's and has asked me for the mov files, which I've given him. The problem being, he's on a windows pc so can't use them for editing.

I was wondering what the current view is on the best way to handle this - is it to convert the movs to avi using a conversion program such as Compressor (or preferably a windows equiv so he can do it not me!) or is there a better way around this that doesn't waste time?

Cheers

Sorry I can't help other than to say this is why the only archive version of EX footage should be BPAV, not mov or mxf. From BPAV you can go back out to any option these converters offer, from mov or mxf the conversion job gets much harder.

Yeah I know, I gave him the BPAV's to kind of put the thing aside as it was more helping out a mate than it was a 'job'. Either way it's left the situation above.

Hi andrew. You could suggest him to use Canopus Procoder 2 or 3.
Pretty fast and efficient to convert formats.

Why can't he use the MOV files? What format are they in? You could make QT PNGs or Uncompressed, or my current favorite DNxHD which would be PERFECT for this application. It's like multi-platform prores.
