View Full Version : Sandisk 32G Class II with K&S
Hey guys,
I know some other folks may have already mentioned this in other related threads but I just want to create a separate thread to confirm that my Sandisk 32G Class II SDHC Cards work very well with K&S on my EX1 with the 1.11 firmware so far.
I'm doing some more test shoots where I can afford to lose footage if the card craps out. So I'll confirm in the next couple days the true reliability in real world situations but so far so good.
Please post and confirm that your 32G Class II Sandisk cards are working and reliable. And of course if they are not, hopefully most will not post the about the latter.
Thanks to all for making this amazing solution possible! :)

Its really strange these things are being labeled as Class 2 now (I assume it is the new 32GB Ultra II 15MBps card you have).
Correct Guy! That is the card I have! :)
Can I ask you a huge favor? Can you please email me (or post here) a decent picture of this card with the Class 2 markings?
You got it Guy!
I'll do it later today!
Thanks, I am just trying to show my local Sandisk distributor the change as they are unaware of it. I have been able to show them on B&H as well, and even on Sandisks web site, although low res, it looks like it is now detailed as class 2 on the main product photo (even if the archive of images still have class 4 all over them).
I am just wondering if this is somehow related to their recent drop in price. We just had a 24% price drop with these 16GB cards.
Okay, just thought I'd let you guys know, this isn't a super thorogh testing of the cards but just from my real world experience shooting on the cards on a doc here in Hawaii.
I did get one media error failure "Media Error. Media(A) Needs to be Restored" during my shoot when shoting HQ 1080/24P so for super critical stuff maybe the 16g cards are still the best bet. Again this is straight shooting, no overcranking.
It wasn't so bad though, for talking head interview type stuff because I could stop and redo the shot. One of the sucky things when you get the media error is that it doesn't automatically jump to the next card. You have to switch to the next slot in order for you to keep recording. Only problem is, to get the card that had the error fixed you have to pop the K&S card with the SD card and pop it back in to fix the error.
Here's what I did for a slight work around-
1) When you see this: "Media Error Media(A) Needs to be Restored" or "Media Error Media(B) Needs to be Restored"
2) Immediately Press the "Slot Select" button so that you can switch to the other card and press record to keep on shooting.
3) Pop the whole K&S card that had the error and pop it back in while the camera is rolling.
4) You will see "Media Needs to Be Restored Restore Media(A) Now?"and click execute. (You should be able to record on the other card while you do the media restore)
5) Obviously, if you can stop the shoot and not have to media restore while in record that would be the ideal.
6) Again this is just for your basic recording not using any overcranking in S&Q mode. And of course, you will still lose a few seconds of your shot when switching over to the other slot.
Just as a side note, in S&Q mode with these 32G Sandisk cards I can comfortably record at Frame Rate 39. Anything higher and the cards fail.
Hope this helps for folks who use these cards. :)

Do you think the results would be any different if you were using the MxR adapters, rather than the KxS adapters?
I have no idea either way, but it seems like I hear of more failures with the Kensington adapters rather than the MxR's.
I think they will be the same, there are a lot more Keningtons out there being used than there would be MxRs.
Its becomming a bit of a scattered results with these 32GB, not as clean a slate as the 16GBs.

This "may" be a good reason to not use the Class II SanDisk Ultra II SDHC cards.
I have heard no negative reports on the Class IV version.

I've been shooting with the 32gb cards for a couple of weeks. Once you get over the format and restore media oddities, the cards work fine and I have had no data loss. Really great to get 118 minutes in HQ mode when shooting talking heads at a conference.
