I rented a hv20, but didnt get down to logging till today. Is it okay to log using my dvx100b? or do i have to use an hdv camera? Any ideas on what my options are?

A DVX100b will not work for logging hdv footage as it's only a SD camera plus the HV20 uses a unique 24p pulldown that only HV20/HV30's can record and playback. It may work with the minidv.
You are going to have to use an HV20/HV30 to capture your footage with if you used the 24p hdv movie mode.
If you used 60i then I believe any HDV camera will work...though the companies have different forms of hdv so it would be best to use a Canon brand camera. Sony's may work with 60i footage but I'm pretty sure JVC will not work.
The wierd 24p pulldown in the HV20 hdv footage is one of it's few drawbacks in that you have to use the hv20 to capture and then you have to use a third party software like TMPGenc, Jesdeinterlacer(mac only) or DVFilm Maker (http://dvfilm.com/maker/index.htm) to remove the pulldown.
Best,
Andy

I already tried in another thread, here in case some helpful soul with knowledge is able to help:
HV20 filmed in 1080 25p ( I know about the pulldown probs and how to remove it with JES deinterlacer)
HV20 in play mode set to :
Playback = A gives a display but FCP wont recognize the device
Playback = HDV makes FCP recognize the device but capturing a black screen and the HV20 display saying Playback STD locked Playback is restricted
For some reason the FW bus is not updating ? I am not able to capture in HDV, if I set everything to PAL DV it works as a charm.
Why is capturing in HDV such a hassle? the HV20 needs to output HDV which is set but FCP even after reboot wont recognize the device unless I set HV20 and FCP to PAL DV
Does anybody know the trick?
thanx

Put HV20 in playback mode and check the settings. I had same problem, when recorded in DV and can't playback the footage, because playback was set for the HDV only.

yes after many wasted hours I realized my B cam operator had played with the settings and some material was recorded in DV wide mode :-( Then later in the tape it was HDV again....
Finally got it right.....thanks!
