View Full Version : Transcoding AVCHD in FCP6.0.5 - Video Speed Problem

I'm trying to transcode AVCHD clips to ProRes in FCP 6.0.5. Everything plays fine in the Log and Transfer window. But when I transcode, the video is sped up 33% while the audio maintains proper speed. So the sync is off and the audio gets truncated when the video ends. A 52-second clip is shortened to 35 sec. Same speed shift happens when I transcode to Apple Intermediate Codec. I've tried switching whatever settings I can find and nothing affects it.
Does anybody have any ideas?? Thanks.

What frame rate are you logging on the original footage that you shot with?

I tried clips at 24p and 30p and had the same problem with both. Today I tried transcoding the same files on another Mac with FCP 6.0.5 and it worked fine. Both my machine and the other machine I tried today are ProBooks. So the problem has something to do with how FCP 6.0.5 is running on my machine. Right now I'd like to try reinstalling the software but am unsure of how to do it. FCP doesn't have a nice, clean uninstall function. Do you know a way of reinstalling the software? Thanks for your thoughts.

Backup or clone your boot drive and do a clean install of OS and FCS2 with updates.
Not an archive install.
This is the best way to deal with issues such as this.

You're right. Just updated OS to Leopard and reinstalled FCP and it works. I don't remember seeing any mention of it, but it turns out that 6.0.5 requires Leopard. I was on Tiger. Thanks for your thoughts.
