"With read speeds of up to 125MB/sec (833X) and write speeds up to 30MB/sec (200X), "
This stuff could probably overcrank 35Mbps witout any problems.
The problem is I bet it won't be recognised. To use the PCI Express Interface (no USB) it needs to be compatible with the SxS driver, which is highly unlikely. USB interfaces work so much easier as they all conform to things like generic Mass Storage Device drivers. Delkin have had this problem with their PCI Express based Express Card SSD (not recognised by the camera).
However, this is EXACTLY the card Sony need to be making as 'SxS Standard" (vs SxS Pro we currently have). 64GB for US$300 and 32GB for US$150 it is cheaper and faster than SDHC! Come on Sony, the PROOVES it can be done.

That is great news if it works. Now we just need someone to take a chance.
I'd give it about 0.5% chance of working unfortunately. Maybe just a little more chance than a ATI card working with an NVidia driver even though both are graphics cards... I'd love to be wrong though.
They are quoted as shipping in late Feb.

I'm thinking it's closer to a 0.4% chance! ;) LOL

If someone has an EX1, and is at Macworld, send me a pm and I can try to set something up with Verbatim, assuming they have the cards here.
I just got a reply from Verbatim saying these SSDs are not compatible with the EX series.
I was just wondering. Is the process of making a ExpressCard work with EX1/EX3 a secret? If so, I can understand why Sony and Sandisk are the only two player. But if not, I wonder why other company like Verbatim, Lexar, and Trancend etc. are not making ExpressCard that will work with EX1. I'm pretty sure if they do work, it may be something like the Kinsington card reader (out of stock in almost every site). Let's say a 16GB Verbatim card is $100 and it's not compatible with EX1. On the other hand, a Sony 16GB SxS card cost about $700 is compatible with EX1. Is it really $600 more difficult or harder to make a card that is compatible with EX1? I'm just thinking out loud here. lol.
To make a PCI Express based Express Card compatible with the EX1/3 you need to make it compatible with Sony's driver as that is the only driver loaded in the firmware and you can't go loading your own. Unlike USB connectivity, PCI Express connectivity of even just a solid state drive requires a proprietary driver, there is no generic driver such as the 'mass storage device' drive most USB data storage uses.
Now if any future flash based cameras use that new CF standard just announced which is basically an eSATA connection in the CF card, then that type of interface should be generic and any brand would be recognised..

Hello, first post to the group so forgive if I mess up on etiquette or protocol.
Question: got an EX3 and several compatible Delkin eFilm adapters but am finding that some Sandisk Ultra II 16gb SDHC cards work and some don't. And these are coming from reputable sources so I don't believe they're fakes. It appears those in the full plastic packaging work and those in the reduced-plastic (paper surround) packaging do not. The camera says "unknown media" when they are inserted but is fine with the same adapter and another Sandisk card.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are the Transcend cards an alternative? I want to use SDHC cards like tape, making them my raw footage archive, but if I can't get a reliable supply, that plan is kaput.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Rick
I have only sourced one type of Sandisk Ultra II card and that is the ones in the full plasting packaging. I have not seen any from Sandisk ship in 'paper surround' and I'd be a little worried about them.
Find a source that only ships the properly package Sandisk product and stick to it. If in doubt, contact Sandisk and ask them:
1: Do they distribute their Ultra IIs in this 'reduced packaging' (send a photo to them)
&
2: Who is your closest authorised Sandisk reseller.

The Verbatim cards won't work in an EX 1 because they do not contain the Sony SxS driver. The hardware is probably more than capable, but you need the driver in order for the card to be compatible. That's how Sony and Sandisk can charge $800 for a 32 GB card that should cost less than $200.
