I'm looking at this on an HD monitor and it looks pretty soft, mushy and compressed to me.
No disrespect to the original poster, am I missing something here?

Have you downloaded the original video?
it looks incredible!
As for softness it's exactly like any other 35mm rigged HVX200/HPX170 footage.
HMC150 will never be as sharp as an EX1 or a 5D MkII but who really cares when you get such beautiful images...

Totally agree, this isn't a sharpness contest - it's the narrative & what the images represent that should be making the impression, not the technicalities of the shoot.

I believe that should be a sticky for all of the other cam owners who can't compare cinematically.. and then they claim to be able to get the panny look throw tweaking and in post. To that I say BS... It's also comments that you'll never hear from an audience... only those looking to cut down a camera or image.

Being sharp as a tack is for scientific experiments.. Having something a bit more abstract, cinematic and then ultimately filled with emotion is key. If the image looks good and conveys a mood then that's all there is to it.

I've been waiting for the SGpro/150 combo. Actually, I just posted in craigslist yesterday volunteering my SGpro to someone with the 150. I got a response, and am planning on going test shooting next week... but after watching this, I may not need to.

Footage looks awesome to me. I think it's time for me to upgrade:thumbup::Drogar-Love(DBG):

i think it looks great. As for the sharpness, the low shutter and shakiness isn't helping any. The original looks much better. From that I can also tell that the compression could have a been little better than it is.

The results are right before our eyes. For a sub $5000 system the camera has its merits. I have to evaluate if this would suit my clients which happen to be broadcast networks.

Every situation, as every client as every camera operator, is different.

Great footage. Any chance of seeing a quick before/after still of the color correction?

Wow first good example from the HMC150.. Took long enough.. I like how the camera handled shooting into the sun.

That's weird. We responded to a craigslist ad offering some help. I notice you're from DFW, too... I think its my HMC150 you're coming to see! Good to see you here on DVXuser :)

Paintings, compared to photographs, aren't sharp, but they are very beautiful. This camera is designed to paint color using high dynamic range and whatever else to look like film. I just needed a good example and I think what Roshan has achieved is great. How does a $4000.00 camera compare to a $50,000 camera? My guess is it doesn't. But right now I can create with this camera what was only available for alot of $$$ just a few years ago.

just incase some people don't know... film is soft. video is sharp. if you want the film look, then you want to add softness to your harsh video. so slight softness is not a bad thing if you are trying to achieve a filmic look.

also, roshan is using a 35mm adapter, which adds even more softness to the image. the HMC without an adapter is extremely sharp.

personally, i love the slight softness. i also have the HMC + SGpro combo and it gives me the perfect balence of natural softness + natural grain and helps me achieve a very natural filmic look that i have not seen in any other prosumer camera.

also, it depends what lens he is using. perhaps he is not using a super sharp lens in that video. so as you see, there are many different factors that go into it. you can't simply say "the camera is not sharp".
