I spent the entire summer working and sleeping to get the DVX, after doing tedious research and so on to ensure that this camera was the way to go. So far, in the short time I've had it, I've not been let down... by the camera.
I'm an avid (hah, a pun) user of adobe's software, and I love my windows system. I just got Premiere Pro and I also am happy with it, with one exception. The lack of the current 24p support I can deal with for now, my real issue comes with the letterboxing.
Here's what I want to do...
In effect, I want to capture my footage and edit it, and then export it, widescreen, without the black matting on top and bottom. The problem here is that if I shoot normal in the DVX, then add my own matting, it of course exports the footage with the matte. If I shoot the 16:9 in camera, when it captures it still leaves the matting, so it seems I have to export at 4:3 to maintain the image ratio looking right. I'm wanting to find a way to be able to export just the wide image, at whatever resolution I like (if anything though, just the regular 16:9 would do), but I don't want it to be a hassle if I decide to export to dvd or show it on an HDTV or elsewhere, and stretch/distort the image, or add black space to preserve it correctly.
Basically, I want to export widescreen without a matte... thoughts?
If that's worded strange, I'll try and smooth out what I'm thinking... perhaps I've just overlooked something?

Haven't used Pro yet (doubt I will, actually!), but in 6.5, you could specify the dimensions, down to the pixel, in certain file renders...
...I used it to output a Teaser that had to be a certain aspect ratio, similar to what you're describing. If 6.5 could do it, I'd think PPro could...but then again, we're talking Adobe!

maybe this will help...
i export WMV files because the content I am producing is for the web. I shoot on a sony VX2000 in its 16x9 mode.
Here are my Premiere Pro 1.5 Transcode Settings that I use...
File: Export: "Adobe Media Encoder"
Format: Windows Media
under "Summary" I go to the "Audiences" tab,
I start with the "Corporate LAN or cable modem/DSL (256Kbps)" preset, then I set the following...
Frame Rate : Same as source
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
Frame Width: 720
Frame Height : 405
then I use my top secret audio format settings and advanced mode settings that don't affect the resulting aspect ratio/ size of the export...this said...if you use these settings, you should get a video with no black bars at the top and bottom. The only weird thing about my results is that when i play back the video and do a right click properties on it, the video aspect ratio info says "720x406" instead of 720x405. It's still 1:77:1, but having that 406 show up when I specifically set it for a 405 heigth is driving me crazy. If anyone knows whats up with that let me know, otherwise the videos look great, play great, and best of all have no black bars ;)
hope this helps,
AAA

If I am following you correctly, then what you need to do is start shooting anamorphic footage. This can be done with either the anamorphic adapter or with using the in camera "squeeze" mode. When you start your project, make certain that it is set for wide screen, then import you footage. Next, you need to let Premier know that the PAR (pixel aspect ratio) of the footage is 1.2 to 1 and not the default .9 to 1. This is easily accomplished, using the conform feature.
Right click on the clip in the bin, next select "Interput Footage" then on choose a PAR of 1.2 on the "Conform to:" options.
You can then export your anamorphic footage for use in any other application as required.
If you are a Encore user, the process is pretty straight forward. Just use the Adobe Media Encoder and set it up as required for the frame rate, PAR and other parameters that you require.

Since that original post is over two years old, I hope LlamaKong figured all that out before now :)

Didn't notice that little detail. Let's hope it isn't still a current issue!
