http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=17993#ModelTechSpecsActOr for circa less $200 the 'mono' flash memory twin HF S100:

Both available in February 2009.

EDIT -- In March, it comes the native 24p lower light performant HV40 'cause its less pixel density ratio. Old DIGIC DV II Image Processor instead the HF S10/100 sisters (version III -- a generation before the 5D Mark II except the size ).

I wonder how they stack up against the HV20/30. I like the HF S10 due to it's internal memory which is worth the $200 price difference to me. I was going to pick up a Canon 5D mark II but this looks to be the new "on the list" toy. :) With the money I save, I can go grab a 5D classic..heh...that's my excuse anyway.

They are different toys... :) Despite all the limitations Canon has introduced in order to sell their video cameras, 5D Mark II is full frame 35mm. Apples to oranges.

True but in the end, it's dollars to dollars ;). I get two toys for the price of one, hehe.

I wish the 24p was native.

Only the HV40 (see my edit above), the others work as same 60i as any HVX and big sisters.

Jesus, the sensor on the VIXIA HF S10 bigger than the HV20. The Hv20 has a fair decent amount of dynamic range. Now I'm very curious to see what this thing will be capable of (luckly we'll also have a dedicated focus ring).

no thanks. Everyone knows how difficult it is for those who own the hmc150's.

You'll most likely see a decrease in dynamic range and sensitivity. The sensor isn't really much larger (1/2.6'' vs. 1/2.7'') but it's packing 8x the pixels.

worst case, you can re-encode it to an intermediate format, like apple does, and there is no appreciable loss in quality... i use the canopus hq codecs.

i think that we are talking about two entirely different generations of sensors.

fwiw, if you look at the canon factory specs for the hf11/hg20/hg21, those cameras have a better lux rating than the older hv30 does, and they have more resolution.

as for the dynamic range, the hfs10 has the digic dv III processor, which is supposed to improve the dynamic range over the digic dv II processor that the hv40 is going to have.

pretty much all of the newest technology is going to be in the avchd camcorders.
