View Full Version : Firewire Port Dead -- Any way to fix?

I've had an HV20 for the past year and a half, and I've never really had a technical issue with it until now. After the camera somehow fell off a table while plugged into my computer via firewire (I had stepped out of the room), the camcorder no longer connects through the firewire port. Everything else works fine, but when I plug in the camcorder to the computer, neither the cam nor the computer recognizes the connection. I know it's not the computer because I've tried connecting on multiple computers with no success. I also know that it's not the cable because I've tried multiple cables. Therefore, I'm forced to assume that my camcorder's firewire port is now dead. I don't have any other HDV cams to capture tapes from, and I'd prefer not to spend the money replacing the cam if I don't have do (even though I probably will).

Is there any way to fix this? I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get it fixed at a service center or get it replaced, but does anyone know a way I can fix it at home?

Thanks in advance! :)

I feel sorry for you but you might as well get a new one.
These things cost alot to repair .
Ofcourse I would call the service center first and asked for a quote.
I hope everything works out fine.

Thanks...I figured that was the case. I might have an active warranty on it, fingers crossed!
