I noticed that when using rubber bands they give any smaller mic sing. I've looked at trying to buy some silicone rubber bands, but didn't have much luck locally. I went to guitar center and bought a little studio shock mount and so far works very good.
- Painters pole $10.00
- 3/8 wood & machine screw $1.00
- Shock mount $8.00
- Foam grip $4.00
I'm going to start a little thread on how to, i'll keep you posted.

Theres a light bulb changing pole at home depot thats a few bucks, buy a bolt to fit you shockmount and your good to go.
every painter pole I have found is 8' max. I was looking for more like 12' with the ability to hold a DSLR on it.....not a video camera but needs to have enough strength to hold a SLR at 12 feet without snapping.

Twocik,
try engine o-rings, thats what i use for my shock mount, much more durable since they are designed to be heat resistant and run inside an engine.

Lightbulb changing poles are sturdy and can telescope to 15 feet. Really good when you want to transport too.
any idea how to attach a camera mount to a painters pole or light bulb changer doohickie

get a ball head and somehow attach it to the end.
Benbo has a good one.
Bogen has at least one one made for a monopod.
Hama for sure has one.
Another idea is to get one of those Ultrapods and bolt it on.

I looked at those before Teddy, but couldn't find the size needed at the stores in town. I'm sure I could have found them online, but found a cheaper solution. I spent $8 on a shock mount from guitar center, so far it works awesome.

a "boom" is usually for a microfone.
a jib is a stick that you put a camera onto.
if you can sit on it - like ron howard - it is alled a crane.
I donno the name of a stick that you put a light on the end of.
why is this important?
each device has a different connector.
and a mic can go on an isolated clip or not.

A boom is an extended arm and just that.....does not matter what you stick on the end.
A jib attaches to a stand and is all manual. Usually only move in 2-axis.
A crane has electronic parts and usually is a certain length. A 3-axis is presented usually with a dutch camera head. And yes, you can put seats on them but that is the 3-axis rule.
