I was looking for a remote control to initiate d90 video recording...
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=156995

and this is quite an interesting link i got in replies:

this got me thinking in these directions
(some of them may dead end...)

1. If this software can really control the D90 (& canon) through the remote cord and laptop - it's great, especially when you get your d90 car mounted or smth like that.
2. Using this you will have a laptop... laptops (especially some of those Sony VAIO's ) are very small today - they can serve as a field monitor (software promises liveview on screen)... battery lasts for hours already built into a laptop, great resolution, portable and not too expensive... perhaps can be mounted on something like this:

3. if you have a laptop with you, with known screen brightness, it is easy to generate full screen images of solid tones of gray to get desired exposure from D90 or canon on the spot as well
4. since these guys can control that much of these cameras through the cord, perhaps they are unofficially the closest ones who can hack the firmware:)

i havent used the software... just some quick thoughts that came to mind

looking into this software. was able to get the liveview on my PC
not able to record video and not able to AEL
so far no luck for video

emailed their team asking to give attn to d90 manual controlin general and their specific software control limitations, perhaps you should bother them with the same, maybe they can be of help to DSLR limitations.....

Are you able to record video during liveview on the pc using the d90 ok button?
Which framerate did you get? And in which resolution.

A couple of months ago I tried Nikonīs own program that is updated for the d90 but I got like 3 fps and in aprox. 320x240. I wanted to use my macbook pro as a field monitor.

Sorry, I donīt mean record video on the pc, I mean record video on the d90 (using the ok button) while you have the PC as a field monitor.

What software do you boys use to have work your pc as a field monitor ?
It is not the Camera Control is it ?
what is the setup ?

I tried in CC but was only able to use LView on snap pix.
No video recording possible.

thanks !

It might be a milestone indeed.

so far - no, but i think these guys can get their software to do so.
i emailed them about it. pls do so to, perhaps they will pay more attn.
they seem to update their software quite frequently

the goal is to control the camera through laptop, not record on a laptop.

"Hi Mats,

The live view images are sent by the camera as a series of highly compressed 640x421 pixel JPEGs. The frame rate is approximately 15 fps."
