I own a mac pro and after transferring and converting the footage from my ex-1 via xdcam transfer I'm able to watch it on quicktime version 7.5.5 just fine. However when i try to get my footage to other clients and watch the same footage on other computers..particularly laptops with the same version of quicktime it tells me that i may need to install some 3rd party components to watch it. Then i am redirected to another website that has a few component options....divix player...etc.
Can anyone tell me which component/program will be necessary to suppliment quicktime so that i can watch the high def clips on my computer and my clients' as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated....
thanks

if your transferring to prores or some mpeg 2 file, it's not naively supported be quicktime, you must have the right codec intalled on a system to view it, you had some codecs installed when you installed fcp that might not be compatible with other systems that don't also have the codecs, you can try something that is compatible on any mac like mov(h.264) for example.or carry a copy of the codec with the files so you could install the codec when needed, you can find prores on the apple site.

Quicktime is just a "bucket". It holds a bunch of different codecs that are loaded into:
Macintosh HD>Library>Quicktime
The XDCAM codec "I believe" get's loaded when you upgrade (using Software Update) FCP 6.0 to 6.0.2 or later.

well i did install fcp 6.0.2 on my old G4 and it wouldnt play the files either. Is it possible that it was a ppc based mac? now i just bought a brand new macbook pro and the files still seem to not play. It redirects me to the apple page of quicktime components.....http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&csubtype=78647662.....leaving me the options of CC, Divx, Zygo digital, streambox, autodesk, sheervideo, qsx essentials, ensharpen, and redcode raw.....i have to wait to get my FCP discs and install it on my new macbook..
perhaps one of those components listed above would do the trick...Isn't there any general new codec that would be able to play the codec:XDCAM EX 1080i60 (35 mb/s VBR), Interger (Big Endian), timecode?
Thanks again...ima leaving for the dominican early wed mornin and im buggin out

thanks for your help...there seems to be no free software to download...just trial version...i jus spent a pretty penny on my fcp studio 2, just need to wait for my discs to get sent over to the DR from cali...once i install fcp version 6.0.4 do you think i would even have to install the xd cam component plugin?

Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 contains the EX codec, which QuickTime Player uses. You can also buy the codec at http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/XDDecodeQ.html, there are versions for both Mac and Windows.
