Hi everyone.
I've been working on a documentary, using the DVX to film interviews. The Defense Visual Information office has some archival footage the I want to use, and they will provide it in the following formats: Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam SX, DVCPro, VHS, S-VHS, VHS-PAL, Hi-8, and 3/4-inch Umatic. Which would be the best quality and make most sense for getting into Premier Pro?

Also, I have some VHS I also want to import and use in the project. I'm not sure how to get started importing and what to watch out for? Any suggestions about where to start or any tutorials to read on importing this footage will be most appreciated.

I'm talking knowing Premiere 6.5, but I'm certain it's same for Pro...

Just load it all as DV settings. Pass through your DVX from the inital recording device, and get it into your computer with the regular old DV codec. It'll maintain DV quality throughout, so the only issue would be the quality of the source clips (which sound like they're a hodge-podge of formats, so consistent quality isn't really an issue anyways...just GOOD quality).

Thanks, Mike.

Guess what I was really wondering about is which format should I have them supply the footage as given the many choices they offer, and then, how to get that into my DVX. VHS would be easiest - but isn't that the lowest quality?

VHS would be the lowest quality....Ideally, they can transfer it to MiniDV...but if that's not possible, see if you can get a deck somehow, for any of the other formats...

It wouldn't KILL YOU to have a VHS as your raw footage...but it won't look as nice. You'll still see everything that's going on in the scene though, if that's the issue, lol.
