New to the DVXuser forum!

My name is Tedy Necula, and I am an independent filmmaker and producer from Romania.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by screenwriter Alex Whitmer, and together we wrote a script titled “The Fishermen”. This will be a film about a disabled teenager and his two sisters, now living alone in an old house after the loss of their parents.

What is the charisma of fishermen? That will be revealed March 13th!

For the moment Alex and I have settled on a final draft, and for cast and crew.

We will use Media Pro's studios located in Buftea, Romania, and perhaps shoot in HD with an HVX 200

I will keep this thread updated as we go, and when we finish we'll take you on a nice fishing trip.

I just checked out the place where you are filming (the link Alex posted)

Looks incredible PLEASE USE THE FRENCH VILLAGE HOUSING. It looks amazing!!!!

Will your film be in Romanian with english subtitles? Or does everyone speak english in the film?

The film will be in Engish. I was thinking to shoot in the French Village but it's too old for our story times.

I made kind of storyboard.

I like the poster. I watched the power point show about Romania in the link which Alex put in your thread. Very impressive country. I like the idea to visit it. One of the comments in that show was that Romanians have a self ironic humor. Will we see that in your film? :) Good luck and I am looking forward to it.

Really strong story. I liked the young girl and the boy. The older sister got on my nerves though (granted that's what she's supposed to do).

The audio got a little distracting after a while though. I would have had more audio overlap and dissolve into each other so that each cut would feel more natural and not so jarring.

But I liked it. It's a nice touching film.

Tedy-

I truly enjoyed your film. The characters felt sincere and genuine. I, of course, wanted a little more information about the elder sister. I wanted to know why, besides having to withstand the pressures of motherhood so soon and desiring a husband, she was so cruel to the children. You handled it well, though.

I thought the performances all around were pretty strong, but yours and Alice's were the most touching. Their strong relationship helped solidify the film and the ending made it something special. The music seemed a fair compliment to the film as well.

There were a few small issues I had with the sound design and cinematography, but they were still very solid.

Great effort!

I really liked this.

The ending in particular moved me. I really believed that connection between the brother and sister. Technically, it may not have been the most advanced film, but emotionally, it felt
great.

Well done.

I agree with what others are saying...maybe not perfect technically but incredibly moving!

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to get into the story but by the end I think it was the most powerful and moving piece I have seen thus far!

The performance by Tedy was very touching and believable! And as others have said the relationship between him and his younger sister was simple and beautiful. If I were more of a crier I would definitely have cried at this one!

Good job.

Tedy... Alex... well done...

very engaging.

i will leave any technical critiques about the film to more capable people.

but i will say this, story and substance trump "technical" stuff any goddamn day of the week.

and there were no technical "issues" that distracted me from enjoying the piece as is.

glad to have seen it, truly.

this film pulled me in, the circumstances of past away parents and being left to a sister that was selfish and unworthly was heartbreaking. The ending was a cut a little too short for my personal taste though because i thought the movie deserved more of a explanation of the "fisherman". over all it was a good choice of story and well made. good luck

i thought the movie deserved more of a explanation of the "fisherman". over all it was a good choice of story and well made. good luck

There is a scene (party) where the evil sister tells them to go to their rooms. The brother then says to Annalis 'When dad was unhappy, he went fishing'. There was a second news article as well, but 6 mins bit that one.

I want to thank Sarah Daly for the guitar in this film. Really works, and has a nice melancholic feel that supports the story. Big 'across the pond' kiss and hug for your gift of song.

Tedy, what we wrote on paper together really took on a wonderful metamorphosis under your care. The edit stung a bit, but in the end, this story really holds together. It was such a pleasure working on this with you.

Alice - you bring such a lightness of being to the whole, and give this story a profound affection. Your on-camera charisma is ageless.

Karla - great job playing the bad girl. Nice, natural rhythm in your work. You really took ownership of the role. Exactly how I pictured you when creating the character, like you just climbed out of the page.

And now Tedy as actor - nobody else could have done this. The honesty in your performance makes this film work in so many ways. I can't imagine it without you.

NOTE: anyone who has worked with child actors knows the imporatnce and contributions of Moms. They can do anything, from makeup, to holding a boom, to detailing a set, and to ... well, acting. 'Hey, you there. Mom! You're on!'

Say hi to our interviewer, aka Mom. Great job!

Equally important to all this, is that the story is resonating with the viewers.

Michael Anthony Horrigan

I recognized Sarah's guitar right away. Very good choice!

Well acted and really moving. This one got to me, especially towards the end. Could have used a little more info on why she was such a super bitch (TV scene) but overall everyone did a great job.

Very sad movie.

Not much to say really. Technically... yah, there were some issues but they never got in the way for me.

Really nice film.

Hey,

My name is Romanita ,aka Karla:) I am very pleased to see all these good reviews regarding the film.My heart`s full of joy:) And i`m not a bitch:)).It was very heard to scream at Tedy and Alice:)

Those 2 days of shooting in Buftea,at MediaPro Studios ,were absolutely magical. We had fun,we laughed, and ...we worked very hard, despite the cold(we had no heat:)) and it seems we did a good job.For me,as an actrice it`s a joy when u say that I stepped on u`r nerves and that i was a bitch:))..that means i did my part well.

And Alex Whitmar, thank you...i`m very happy to know that u liked my acting...i was really nervous when i read the script for the first time. It`s unlike me:)

And,Tedy,thank u for this oportunity...!I hope we`ll do this again,soon!!!

I hate to say that I had no idea what to expect going in but it was a very pleasant surprise. I enjoyed this film a lot.

There were some technical things but they kind of become irrelevant in light of the performances. There was one part where I couldn't quite make out a line that was said but it didn't matter because the emotions and the context were on the screen and the actor's faces so I understood what was said.

The film felt genuine and wasn't heavy-handed which could be an easy place to go with this kind of material. You guys made a very good film.

LOL! :)

Of course not. I meant as an actor of course. :)
I wasn't sure what the motivation was for the freak out while they were watching TV? Just to keep them out of the way of the party?

Maybe you can shed some light on that?

Thanks!

There was some angst here as all this came together with mostly strangers, two languages, and a couple bucks.

I bet the 'missing line' is between brother and sister at the party?

Thanks for watching. Thanks for the nice words.

We tossed the language idea around a bit, but seeing how everyone in the cast spoke such polished English, we went with that to avoid the subtitles. I am curious, however, just how much a difference there would be had it been done in Romanian - if any.

Tedy, well you know what the technical problems are. One of the most difficult things in shooting a short is getting the emotion to come across and in your short you did it well. Technical issues are much easier to forgive when the story is well written and then well portrayed.

Very nice story. Love the acting of the brother and the little sister. Is the actor of the brother in his real life a disabled person? If not - he was exceptional! I am not sure about the acting of the older sister. She was a little rigid and too histerical. I think your film would be better with the original language and english subtitles. I absolutely like the end when the little sister with her brother left the big sister and the previous life behind. It was a very possitive light hearted end solution without to be too kitsch or too cute. Compliments. I hope to see something else from you in the future.
