Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the DVX100A and I'd like to setup my laptop to edit footage. I have a Dell Inspiron 8100, USB ports, running Win XP (Home Ed. :P , but I can change that). I am trying to come up with a hardware/software flow to purchase for my computer.

So first things first, I need a firewire card. How's the Pyro 1394DV CardBus (FireWire 400)? So, then I was thinking I'd just go into Adobe Premiere, shooting 30p so SFX are easier, then out to CD or DVD (Encore). Will this work? Has this worked as is, etc. or am I missing a step? And, will it capture 30p? I know there's this big deal with it not accepting 24p, etc... but I'm not interested in that right now. Do I need DVFilmmaker for any reason for 30p? Should I go with Avid Xpress Pro instead? Etc.

Ok, so it would be DVX100a -> Pyro 1394DV Cardbus -> Premiere Pro -> Encore DVD -> DVD or DVX100a -> Pyro 1394DV Cardbus -> Premiere Pro -> CD Quicktime/Whatever

Next, while I'd love to get Quickstream DV, I'm short that $1000 (very nice to offer the discount to DVXusers though!) so I'm looking into other cheaper but effective storage devices for capture, say 4 hours worth will do. Any ideas? I need the external harddrive because I don't have enough room on my computer. RAM and I will fight to the bitter end, so let's not go there.

Hmmm...I think that's enough for now. :)

Thanks!
Susan

Everything looks pretty good. you should have not problem capturing your footage into Premiere pro, (60i, 30P, 24pn, and 24Pa) all capture the same, they just playback differently. you could even import 24pn footage as it just has a 24p cadence but the framerate is 29.976fps. You can actually burn a DVD from premiere pro, however you can't set menus or anything so yes, you pretty much have it right on.
