That was disturbing. Good key though

Yes indeed. I'm happy to spread the pain. The camera keys pretty well and this is not a great location for what I" doing.. but the 150 does a nice job. I also make sure all camera detail is turned off. I need to experiment now with some rim lighting on the subjects with some colors and do some matching back to the background plates..

Yes. I should have fair warned everyone on this one. I'll try and shoot something more appealing next time. I'm pretty happy though with the cams key-a-bility, if that's such a word. I really need to do some large scale objects in front of a 50' sike with 100' of seperation... now that would be some rocking stuff. Maybe when the reasonably priced 4k cameras come out, we'll see some films on a scale that previously would have been the stomping grounds of the one million plus club.

well in Scotland this is what they call entertainment. My wife, who's black.. . says that this really BET. Love's watching some bad white people dancing. He's quite the awesome pastor and person and just took the opportunity to cut a rug,... so to speak.

I also make sure all camera detail is turned off.

Why are you looking at turning the detail off? I'm doing some green screen work and I was thinking the same thing. Just want to know your reason. I was seeing some what I think is some extra edge sharpening that left a little funky edge in some cases.

One thing I found looking at native AVCHD and DVCPRO HD transcoded footage was that the transcoded footage keyed better. When I zoom in AE, I can see the 4:2:0 color encoding in the native footage (ie. i could pick out some 2 pixel high stair stepping.) The same footage didn't have the same stair stepping after transcoding.

I'll post some footage soon and a couple of still showing the difference.

Well you want to have it turned off so you can blend the edges. I got this tip from a website and it was very helpful. You don't want to have any camera sharpening on. This doesn't key quite as easily as my HVX did. That's the only signifigant disadvantage I'm seeing.. But it just means I have to be a bit more careful.

i'll try and find the website that goes through all the steps on chromakeying.. The only thing that I really know I need is more seperation from the subject and the greenscreen.. but then I'd need a much bigger greenscreen.

Justyn, I think you should have a 6 month ban on posting any clip involving a man hip thrusting in a plaid skirt.

I am just happy we all don't (and don't want to) know if he was "regimental" in his kilt!

play that on sunday morning... especially the humping part...

Thanks guys. I'll take those points in order for posting the next series. There's really not too much to this set-up. I'll try and take a photo tomorrow as I'm shooting another set of green screens.. but this time I think I'm going to bring down the illumination on the key as it's just throwing off too much spill. Originally I have been using about 2k to light the greenscreen.. and 1k should be more than fine and allow less spill. The room isn't big so I don't have the room for seperation. On the front light.. I have 2 1ks with umbrellas and a 500 watt rim light. Overall pretty straightforward key set-up.

The sunday morning hump would be funny. I've comtemplated playing it.. but that just might have to be for a select audience... cheers

cheers. Our last show aires next week. I started on HVX and by the end it was all 150 baby. Hoping to get another one and we'll see if there's an even beefier cam in the future.

What is your workflow for capturing and editing?

What do you use to pull your key? I noticed that sometime hands kinda disappear when in motion. Reminds me of spill issues I've dealt with in the past.

Good to see someone with a good sense of humor and isn't afraid to laugh at their own expense! Must make your job a whole lot easier.

Yes.. there was too much fill. I overlit the screen. Got it dialed in a lot more now.. this cam isn't as forgiving as the HVX way.

My workflow is through FCP. Transfer to Prores 422hq and then it's all cut on a dvcpro50 timeline for broacast...

Having a whacky Scottish guy for a client does make things a bit more fun!
