We shot outside with the m2 in about 20 degree weather for 3 hours and it just turned off. About 3 hours later I tried to turn it back on and it went on like normal. Is this normal?

My motor has slowed down in cold weather before. If you didn't have a fresh battery, the oil in the motor probably got too thick and there wasn't enough power to keep it moving.

Not to mention that batteries, which are little chemical reaction units, don't react nearly so well in the cold, so your voltage would likely have dropped at the same time your motor's lube got thickened up. (The same sequence of events is why cars crank so slow when it's really cold out too!)

What I do sometimes, is I get a bunch of those chemical hand warmers to keep batteries warm. It works really well.
