MYIASIS SISTER
A film by J. Anthony Gonzales

This is going to be an animated joint. Something like Martha Colburn meets Nintendo. Again, I'll try and document this one from the beginning. Hopefully I can get this one done.

Cheers!

Nice. Always one of the most original and creative voices in the fests. Get er done!

I understand you didn't make it last time because you were tied up with some other projects...But by now, I'm sure you are DOUBLE restless to get something into a fest...:)

lol, even the title of this one challenges the audience.

Really looking forward to the change of pace and variety / unique voice you bring.

Yes, I've been a little swamped of late. I'm itching to get this animation project done, so this fest gives me a little push. Thanks again for the support, Mark.

Ha, ha. Yeah. You have NO idea. :)

As always, thanks for the support!

So a little something about the film, here.

THE STORY: The story is about a creature who has lost her wings and she must go on a journey to find them.

THE PRODUCTION: The film will be a kind of "collage animation". I will be building flat paper puppets for all of the characters. Most of the foreground elements will also be made of real, physical materials. The various scene backgrounds will be put together in Photoshop. I will use a homemade animation disc/rig to shoot the foreground stuff against a "green screen" background. I will be using a Canon HV30 in "photo" mode to grab the high resolution stills to animate. After Effects will be used to stitch the whole thing together. Both digital and animated effects will be used where needed.

THE STYLE: The idea is to have the action/scenes move across the screen much like a scrolling landscape type video game and the action will very much mimic such a game. It's either going to work out or look like shit. Obviously, I'm hoping for the former.

I'll try and put some pictures up of the rig and other stuff soon.

That's all for now. If you have any questions about anything, let me know!

Cheers!

I've been a bit busy with things lately, so I haven't updated in a while. Anyway, a bit has changed with this project. Mostly, going to be a totally digital production. Time is kind of getting away from me and I hope to have this sucker finished in time. We will see.

Cheers!

Well, your not the mother of all thread-pimp-masters, haha.

Just wanted to say your on my first-to-view list whenever you can get something in.
Last fest you didn't make it so I was hoping for this time.

If not, let me suggest something. Maybe those things your trying to do are going to take longer than the 3 months typical of what a fest allows. So rather than try and cram everything in and settling for whatever seems passable and maybe backing out, why not see one through regardless if it takes 6 months or longer, whatever, and shoot a link out when it's done?

It seems if you miss this one again, that's 6 months of ideas, and good ones, washed up that your probably not going to pick up again. A bit of a shame.
Whereas, you could have had one done now. Know what I'm saying?

Thanks for the good word. Actually, what starts out as "a little something for the DVXUser fest" usually turns into a bigger project.

- The "LoveFest" film I was working on turned into my first feature (shopping festivals as we speak).

- The "TwilightFest" project is turning into a web series project that starts production next month.

So I definitely try not to shelf stuff once I start working on them. My problem is that I have too many ideas and trying to focus on just one at a time. :)

I've been without my computer (3-year-old + bottle of wood glue + computer = :zombie_smiley:) but will try and get something to screen for this one, even though it may be a work in progress. This one might make out of here as a web series as well (as I'm thinking about it).

I always have the intention of posting a lot, on these forums or even in my own threads, but things are always a bit crazy. But I'm going to try and post some updates over the last few weeks before the deadline.

Cheers!

Good to hear. I didn't know that. If it's any inspiration also, look what just won the Oscar for best animation short (La Maison en Petits Cubes) which was well earned and everything.

Listen, your ideas are better imo. It's just a matter of getting them done and devolped properly.

So, here's a test I did to see a couple of the puppets and a landscape in action. It definitely came out better than I anticipated. Looking forward to developing the environments completely.

Great teaser. So wonderfully bizarre, I want to see more.

On a technical note, it appears the walk cycle is a little jerky. I think the problem is the right lower leg is much longer than the left. That was probably a conscious design choice, but it is somewhat distracting. The arm swings look great. Very smooth.

Love the overall aesthetic.

Look forward to seeing it completed!

I'l leaning towards that opinion as well. The jerkiness has a defininte aesthetic much like the afore mentioned Oscar winner animation that had moments of pause.

On close inspection though, I see the background is hick-upping around the same time as the hickup in the walk cycle. Maybe that's just a tech thing. It almost seems as though there is a frame rate conversion going on, possibly during the upload process? But I like jitter actually. Just as long is it's intentional and not all in sync and predicatable timewise.

The landscape artwork is pretty dodgy as you know. That could be fixed up.

Reminds me a bit of the Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' style, a bit, or maybe the Monty Python thing which was the originator of that 2D cutout style I believe.

I'm down for it. You've got my interest.
