Considering buying a DVX100A and looking at what to edit with. Currently using Canopus Storm 1 and premiere 6.
Are we at a point that accelerators like the Storm are no longer needed? Where would I suffer if I only use a well powered computer to work with Premiere Pro 1.5. I don't do a ton of layering or compositing. Real time previewing would be a must as would realtime output. Not sure what encoding method I would go with for DVDs.
Thanks all...

realitime Mpeg output is pretty hard to do unless you got some ballz under the hood of your system, or 5 of them farmed together.
The biggest thing is you want a program that can remove the Advanced Pulldown, FCP and Vegas do, to my knowledge Premier Pro does not.
When deciding your NLE, decide how big your products are going to be. I find Vegas to be the best all around program, especially version 5, but I just recently edited a Feature with it that was originally onlined on an Avid in NY and the Sound mix was done at another facility with Protools compatible programs. Needless to say, Vegas cant output a compatible EDL list, nor the proper sound files to work with these other systems. That pretty much added so much extra work that I wish I just used Avid Express Pro, but normally its not an issue.

the matrox rtx100 extreme pro allows for realtime export of mpg2-m2v. im not sure about the canopus. i dont know much about it. jarreds right the current version of ppro does not support 24p pulldown, but the new version available at the end of the month does. ppro 1.5 - vegas is rocking as well .
you can check out the new features of ppro version 1.5 here:
