I'm about to start shooting this educational DVD where i'll have the talent on greenscreen and then in the post i'll have to replace the greenscreen with white and colorful images. I was thinking of shooting in 720p but have reservation on how good the camera is for greenscreen work. Anyone care to share some experiences?
i shoot nearly all my green at 720p with the hvx/hpx - works great

I recommend 1080p if able.

Yeah, the HVX 200 works fine for greenscreening.
I would go 1080p, short exposures, light carefully,
and blur your chroma before pulling the key.

Blur your chroma?

HVX keys better than anything in its price bracket. I'd definitely recommend 1080p mode if you're shooting 24p or 30p.

If you're using FCP, it's easy. Just pop in the Keying > Color Smoothing 4:2:2
filter BEFORE your key.
The idea is that DVCPROHD is a 4:2:2 codec, which means that every
luminosity pixel (Y') is recorded, but the color information is sampled
at half the rate, so you have groups of two pixels with identical Cb and Cr.
Which means your jaggies will be even more jaggy. By blurring only
the color information, you keep the luminosity detail, and smooth
those jaggies before the keyer does its work. It's a way of faking 4:4:4.
This article has an illustration of chroma blur for Vegas:

One more thing: turn OFF sharpening on your camera when you shoot greenscreen.

Is there a Premiere cs3 equivalent?

Tough question, I guess...

Thanks for that. I read your post 10 minutes before doing greenscreen work and did a quick test before continuing to film and although dont really see any difference on screen it seemed to work wonders when keying in AFX!
So thanks....
Wish I had noticed the last line though - oh well.
