View Full Version : Need actor for voiceover PRONTO!

Okay, I know I should put this in the 'Jobs' section, but I have a feeling most actors don't go down there looking for casting notices.

I'm working on an institutional short for the local Crisis Pregnancy Center. The CPC is a Christian, non-profit organization that helps women with crisis pregnancies. I don't want to get into a religious or socio-political discussion here. I just want you to have an inkling of the nature of the project.

I need a good voiceover by a male who can sound like an elderly German man. I have the text, and it's not very long. It's a monologue, of course.

Time is short, so the perfect candidate would be able to record this himself and send it to me -- preferably via email -- ASAP.

The video will be shown only once -- to a group of nearly 200 pastors at a prayer breakfast. The purpose of the video is to energize them to support a new Crisis Pregnancy Center being opened in their area.

There is no pay. But if you'd be willing to help us with this video for an extremely worthwhile organization, please PM me pronto! The deadline is fast approaching.

Thanks!

David

when is the deadline? i can hunt around here a bit for you. i know several older male actors but would need to check who might be able to pull off the accent you need. i will make sure they are aware it is no pay but a 'credit'

Michele

PS...I did not even know there was a job posting section here and wonder how many others are unaware! wonder if we can talk them in to making a 'jobs for actors' in this section somewhere. just so it is where the actors will see it.

Not a bad idea. Maybe other sections -- Cinematography, Directing, Sound, etc. -- could have their own 'Jobs' section.

As for a deadline, I need it done and in my hands by the end of this week. (Nothing like waiting until the last minute, eh?)

Thanks!

yikes...end of the week. well, i'll make some calls tomorrow afternoon when i get back from my shoulder docs! with lots of folks out of town for the holiday it is gonna be hard but i will see what i can find.

and yeah...seems a job posting per department might make it easier all the way around. so when you need actors you post to them or when you need a dp you post to them directly. i wonder how many others miss the jobs listing!

i do think i looked at it once last year when i got on here but i saw tech stuff so i think i just assumed it was all crew based job listings and forgot it was there!

Thanks Michelle. Guess I should go ahead and post on Nowcasting.com and NYCastings.com as well. Time is way short.

I am not getting return calls from hardly anyone (lot of out of town) and the two I got are not able to do the accent. I am not going to be much help but I do still have calls that have not been returned.

I would do it for you but I am in Europe. An idea though. There is a Reduser in Germany, Post there and ask if they can point you to an Actor who would be suited for it. Lots of great German Actors in both L.A. & N.Y.C.

Might be nice to have someone who is a native and can concentrate on deeper aspects of the material rather than a dialect.

Hi Michele,

http://reduser.net/forum/index.php

Do you really have a little book where you keep things for future references?

lol..yes I do. more than one...ha ha ha. I keep notes and phone lists and books. You never know when the info will be needed and instead of starting from scratch I can go to one of my books and often find what I need at hand! some of my books date back 20 years and more...

oh..i do buy those bound books with blank pages so it is not piles of stuff and i can put them on a shelf!

and woo hoo the site is in English....i was worried a moment since David was seeking a German accent that the site might be in German...lol....silly me!

Well well well I can only imagine what a trove of impressions is locked away in those pages! Thats a huge part of the Actors work is having access to those tangled threads that make up the web of our inner lives.

HAve you worked with people from this site IRL? I am relativly new here and am totally facinated by this community and how helpful and passionate people are about their work and each others progress and projects...Its quite a place!

When you get to the Reduser site there is a section for different parts of the world where David could speak directly to folks from Germany. It sounds like an interesting endeavor so I hope he finds someone who can deliver his vision.

I have helped a few on the site and via email and now have some students coming to the site. It is hard to work irl with actors you cannot meet with in person. I have done video conferences with a few but not from this site. I guess I should consider that but I mostly just share info in the spirit this site was intended.

dvxuser was set up so people could share info and help each other.

David is in Charlotte which is almost 4 hours from me. We never met irl but I have seen him posting since I got here a year ago and since we are in the same state and I have contacts near him...I jumped in to offer help but turned out he did not need me as you know. Thank goodness too because things shut down around this town until the Monday after New Years and I was having a hard time tracking down several actors!

Ah, but the beauty of modern technology is that it doesn't matter where an actor is located -- at least, when it comes to voiceover work.

The guy who did this bit for me is nearly 3000 miles away. He emailed me one day. The next day he was in the recording studio, and by evening I had the .MP3 file in my email's Inbox. Gotta love it!
