View Full Version : AHH! 6.5 and 24p!
I'm sorry to beat a dead horse. But I have been searching the threads and am still confused. Can I flim in 24p (not 24pa) and edit it in Premier 6.5? And if so, how would I go about doing that? SORRY!

yes you can do it.. 24pn (not advanced) is the same as editing 24p thats already been telecined to ntsc video in a 29.976 timeline.. so simply stated.. you dont do anything special.. you just edit it exactly like you would edit any other regular video.

Do you want to edit your footage as you would edit film footage? Or do you want to do a pure 24P edit?
IAL describes the way you would use Premiere 6.5 to edit the footage for television, etc. -- as 60i.
If you want to do a 24P native edit, you have to first use DVFilm Maker software to convert your DVX footage to a pure 24P quicktime .MOV. Then you can edit in Quicktime mode in Premiere 6.5, and do a frame-accurate 24P edit.
Barry: This is going straight from my camera, to the computer for editing, to DVD (or VHS). So I think IAL's solution applies to me.
Also, do I need any special camera settings? Or can I just select 24p, shoot and then capture?

Just make sure it's set to 24P standard rather than 24P advance. Other than that you'll have absolutely no problems whatsoever, the motion is the same as telecined film to 60i video.

The new Premiere Pro 1.5 supports *native* 24P editing.
When you shoot and edit in 24P standard, it's (from a technical and numbers standpoint) 60i video.
The new Premiere can actually extract the Native 24P frames from the video, and edit them IN a 24P timeline.
