Just picked up a Panasonic SD9 avchd cam as a b/c camera to my EX1 and my HVX.

Have been reading through the threads and learning about all the 'fun' issues everyone is having with avchd and final cut.

Now one thing i just wanted to confirm was if anyone was having any issues with interlaced footage? Because i can transcode it fine with log and transfer... no stutters, no green frames.. all good. Can HMC150 users do this? or is it an SD9 lower bit rate thing only?

And yes, im having all the same issues with progressive.. bloody annoying as thats all i ever shoot in.

Joe,

I think the reason why you don't see a lot of topics regarding interlaced footage and the HMC 150 is because most people shoot progressive AVC HD. I think more people are running issues with editing AVC HD rather than whether it's interlaced/progressive. One of the mains reasons I got this camera is because it's progressive shooting modes. :)

But to answer your questions, once I got my workflow down, I haven't had a problem with any of the interlaced/progressive footage.

I'm a bit surprised you're having the same issues with progressive if you're transcoding with no problems interlaced.

By the way, how do you like the SD9? It sounds like a great little camera.

I've edited tons of interlaced footage shooting in the lowest mode doing event videography and I have never had a problem. Just have to run a de-interlace filter through it in final cut and you're golden.

For the price its an amazing camera, the pics are great, its got some cool professional features built in (zebras, manual shutter, iris, white balance - menu based but still)

It sits in the palm of your hand and is as light as a feather. All in all i just love the fact its 1080p in such a small form factor.

Now if only final cut would sort out their support. Trying out toast 9 at the moment.. but its very very slow compared to final cut log and transfer..
