Hi all

I am having a lot of troubles doing a dvd in encore.
The problem comes when the dvd is already done (timeline, subtitles, menus...) and i go to file/ make dvd.

Starts ok, but suddenly stops when in the progress task it is building menus (it gets stuck with 12 green lines)
Above says transcoding audio....

It happened before once when i did a dvd of 1 hour and 35 minutes. About 6 hours later the task progress restart and i finally did the dvd.

My question: Is that normal? Has to take so much time?

The movie i am doing it´s a 1h47m. (with subtitles)

Any tip....

thanks

I already did (long time ago)
I have no problems when i make dvd´s with a lot of short and about 2 gig of space.
The problems comes whenever i put a long movie and it´s about 3 gig or more.

Any other idea?

thanks anyway IAL

how much free drive space do you have currently on the A/V drive?

I am not sure what you mean.
If it´s free space in the hard disk... about 50g
Maybe you ask for free space in the dvd disk: it´s empty.

it would be normal pending how fast your machine is, and how much memory you have, and if you use a separate hard drive for import and export of audio and video other than your system drive. it could take 6 hours to transcode a near 2 hour thing if you dont have your system configured correctly, or if its just slow. a low drive space on the A/V drive could certaily slow it down as well, but it doesnt seem like thats the issue.

What version of Encore are you using?

Does the same hang occur when you manually transcode the file? (i.e., right click on the file in the project window, and choose "Transcode Now")

I had problems getting Encore to burn directly to the DVD (version 1.0) so I began burning to a disk image and then (using Roxio's disc copier) burning the image to disc. It seems to go much faster even though it is two steps and I haven't made any more (expensive) DVD coasters...

Even though I now have 1.5 I do the same thing. You might try it...

..dvlisarrr, have you tried buring straight to disk from 1.5 yet? ive had no problems at all. but it certainly pends your DVD writer hardware as well.

some great suggestions already, if none of those work, give us more info about your equipment, especially the brand of dvd drive.

try silly stuff like defragmenting your drive(s) and doing a fresh boot before trying this.

i have had some weirdness with encore but nothing repeatable and considering how many dvd's i've made it wasn't very often.

definitely follow that tip someone gave of doing the transcode manually!
