Hey, I now have my HMC151! It performs great and sofar it has just given me big smiles.

I just have one question - is it possible to record directly from the camera to a computer harddrive? Via a USB or Firewire, not using a SDHC card? If not, when do the class 6 32 GB cards come out on the market?

Also, cramming another question into this thread - how do you record in slowmotion? I've seen great examples of slow-mo shots, but can't remember how they were done.

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

Take a look at your outputs on your cam. There is no firewire.

Video streams out HDMI and component only. There is a single audio/headphone plug.

You would need a HDMI are component input drive to record to HD and of course a NLE. Both would require uncompressed I believe.

Take a look at some of the BM Intensity products. Of course, these won't work with a laptop and you will need some pretty robust HDDs.

Slowmotion - record at 60 fps, and change it is post.

Without knowing what specifics you use in the way of hardware, and software, can't advise much more

The slo-mo I did with CS4 was by opening a new 24P sequence, then importing the 60P clips. Then you right-click on the files while still in the bin, and choose "interpret footage." Next, click on the button that says "assume this frame rate" and change it to 23.976. Then it plays in luscious slo-mo when you move the clips from the bin to the timeline. I had to figure that out myself - I haven't seen that info listed anywhere (I looked)

32 gig class 6 SD's are already out so you should not have much trouble finding them. Mostly in computer stores or camera stores or online.

Keep in mind that class 4's work just as well for recording in all modes but the class 6's give you faster off load speeds.

Congrats on the camera!!!

With the super long record times and the cost of the SD media, why on Earth would you want to record to harddrive? Even if you have to flip cards.. it's at most 10 seconds.. way quicker than a tape based switch. I think that harrddrive solutions will only be necessary for P2 and similar cameras.

It would be nice to have a reasonably priced outboard recorder for HDMI. This would then put the HMC150 in the 4:2:2 color space. For those who need superior keying etc.

Cineform is supposed to be working on one.

We did some pretty fantastic keying in about a five minute set up with 720/24p, two softboxes, and some inexpensive software.

I have a still in the screen footage section.

I was astounded.
