Very elegant indeed.

Good Job!

Thanks, Wayne. I ordered mine yesterday.

One thing you might check, on the check out page the final total line doesn't add up the £'s correctly. It shows a higher total £ than the line items listed above it, and thus a higher converted USD amount. Fortunately that appears to be a display error as it did charge the correct amount (£ and $) to my paypal account. Not sure if anyone else noticed this or if this only shows up when it has to do a currency conversion.

One last thing, I ordered the RotoRazor2 and now I'm thinking I probably should have ordered both 1 and 2. Is it possible to get that added to my order?

Thanks again for keeping your promise of getting the order page up on the 18th. If only more companies would be as reliable. :)

I just received my r3 version 3 weeks ago... still happy with it, but now when I see this new version, I only want to cry.
Wayen, Glenn.... any ideas, who knows, it is a Xmas time, miracles can happen.
Great look though

Thanks guys,

Not seen that problem before, your order did come through at the correct price. I'll keep my eye on that.

You can certainly add ROTOrazor 1 to your order, please email Glenn at sales@shoot35.com.

Hey Wayne, have you guys done testing with the dvx100a?

Does this adaptor come with a 77mm thread for the EX1?

Has it been corrected like the Letus extreme so it has edge to edge sharpness with the EX1?

Thanks
Steve

The Blade has a 72mm thread but you can order a 77-72mm ring with the blade.

Confirm this with Wayne, but im pretty sure the new achromat is made with the EX1 in mind. He is testing the EX1 and blade as we speak (probably)

wayne...i have a few questions, also since i havent seen any footage from the beta testers with the razor2.

1. Razor2: is this the same exact gg from the sgpro? meaning this Blade version performs the same exact way as the sgpro but with a different chassis?

2. Weight: what is the weight difference of the Blade and the SGpro, mounted on the new rails vs the old rails?

3. How many stops gained with the Razor1?

4. Clarification on the rod support system pieces...why isnt the tripod clamp included since that is a necessity with any rod system? Is there a screw that connects the blade onto the bracket so that there's no slippage?

5. Where are those beta testers' footages???

6. Anybody testing with the HMC150?

7. Is the lens mount the same exact design as those from the SGpro? Meaning the lens mounts can be exchanged between the pro and the blade? I'm thinking I can get a blade outfitted with an EOS mount since I already have an f-mount.

1. I believe it is the same Screen as the Rev3 model.

2. weight is identical to the letus extreme.

3. Rotorazor 1 came to about 1/5th to 1/4 stops less sensitive than the LEX. so i would image that would be .65 stops.

4... dunno

5. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=154105

6. I tested on the XH A1

7. from what i recall, the lens mounts are the same. They are screwed into the front end which has the backfocus adjustment. So yes.

Hey Wayne, have you guys done testing with the dvx100a?

Yes, Anders Nettli (beta tester) has a DVX100. This cam is tried and tested with the SGpro so will have no problems with the Blade.

The FLIPmodule comes with a 72mm connector but you also get a free step ring with the Blade, so you can choose 77-72.

Yes, we went out today with the SGblade, new flip module and an EX1. We did some Steadicam shots with the Hocus Focus wireless follow focus (the HoFo works great, btw).

We are pleased to say that the bigger prism and wider gate has solved the vignetting issue. We will be posting the results in the SGblade testing zone this week!

With Video Forum at Earls Court only a few weeks away, will there be an opportunity to have a play with one at the show?

We will not be there, unfortunately. We are however planning on attending the 'Focus On Imaging' event at NEC in February.

1: Yes, it is the same GG/diffuser element, however with the new coatings used in the Blade, you will see an improvement in contrast and light loss.

2: Once all the final parts come in, we will take official weight measurements.

3: With the Blade and FLIPmodule, ROTOrazor 1 results in approx 1/2 stop of lightloss, with ROTOrazor 2 its approx 1 stop.

4: You have 2 options.
The first (£149) and least expensive includes the 'tripod connector', this bolts to the main base plate of the rods support, and the tripod connects to this.

The second option (£179) includes a second 'rods clamp' and the tripod connector bolts to this clamp. This means that the tripod connector can slide up and down the rods, allowing the user to perfectly balance the rig on their tripod.

5: Beta Testers thread is here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=154105

Also, as mentioned we went out today and shot some footage with the EX1, this will be up this week.

6: We have no tests with this cam at this time.

7: The SGblade requires our new mounts with 'outer collimation rings'. These are backwards compatible with the SGpro. If your lens mount does not have a collimation ring, it cannot be used with the Blade, however.

One thing I can't get past is the radical height difference between the base of the camera and the base of the adapter. It just looks so "non-pro." And what's with that huge focus gear? I know all the flip adapters have this offset but I think I'll stick with the standard non-flip adapter until someone can design a flip unit that doesn't make the rig look like a backyard built contraption.

This. Major reason why I sold my LEX. Next adapter will be straight. Either a Blade or a G35... I'd rather deal with it in post.

I have to admit that the Blade looks very promising, but the G35 is so simple and solid... I'll wait for more test from the Blade with the final achromat to take my decision.

I also think the flip unit makes the rig abut wobbly, but this is easily solved with a Zacuto Z riser and some creative rodwork.

That's a nice looking rig. I like raising the adapter as opposed to raising the camera.

does the sg flip do anything other than fip the image? For example, does it help with edge falloff or CA ?

Hi Jay,

We have only had ordering up for just over a week and have already sold 25% of our first batch. In order to spread our workload, we have changed the shipping date for new orders to ship between 9th - 16th February. This shipping date is displayed on the SGblade product page on our website, this will update as the ship date changes.

Over the next few months we will catch up and have Blades in stock, ready to ship - onwards and upwards :D

Hi Wayne,

Does this mean that the orders that you already recieved will also have their ship date pushed back or just orders going forward?

Thanks,

Hi

Orders that have already been placed will have the shipping date you received at the time of order.

We are handling the shipping dates in slots to cope with the workload so it will change for new orders only and not for customers that have already ordered.

sorry Wayne one other thing, on your site on camcorder step up ring it states the a1, im guessing this is the xh-a1 needs a 37-73 step up ring, yet sgblade has 72mm thread, is this a typo or will i need to add this ring to my order?

hoarp001
12-30-2008, 06:19 PM
The blade will screw straight onto your camera with no rings required.

Wayne Kinney
12-31-2008, 01:35 AM
Yes, the XH-A1 will connect directly without step rings. The 37mm step ring is for the Sony A1. That is indeed a typo, it should read 37-72 not 37-73, we will change that now, thanks for spotting!

I was all ready to snatch up a SGpro r3 yesterday (wonderful, wonderful christmas $$$!) when I saw that the SGblade was available. That being said, I'm now very excited for it to arrive! It looks great Wayne, one comment on the order is that the web checkout did not accept my debit card that usually works everywhere else online. Paypal worked fine though.

hoarp - I saw your YouTube videos on the hocus focus and just wanted to say how cool i think the unit is. You've really thought it all out with the different frequencies and electronic limiting for the gears. Best of luck if you go for production.
