So I just got back from a trip where I had to unload all of my footage onto my external hd since I dont have the latest fcp on my laptop.

I have about 60 gigs worth of footage from this trip. After the end of each day I'd drop the footage then format the card.

When I watch footage in VLC the first 2 days footage plays back perfect. But some of the other day's clips play back choppy. I don't get it

* What SD cards are you using?
* Do they play choppy when played back from the camera (you'll need to copy them back to card to test this)
* Also are the choppy clips long ones or short ones? (I ask that because I use Media Player Classic and with big clips it stutters at times due to overhead required to uncompress AVCHD)

* Do any the choppy clips actually play back okay in FCP and render out okay?

I am using a delkin class 4 sdhc card. They do not play back choppy when I play the clips on the camera. The choppy clips are both long and short. Audio is fine, just the video is playing back choppy. I haven't had a chance to try them in fcp yet.

I use SanDisk/Panasonic & Transcend cards so I can't comment on your Delkin ones; I wonder if anyone else has experience with Delkin Class 4 cards.

Just curious, what mode & resolution did you shoot in?
