Back once again.
Tagline: "You won't be able to handle this much LOSS"
http://www.dvxuser6.com/uploaded/34810/1233347619.jpg
Synopsis: Two losers go on a harrowing journey of loss... and then nothing happens.
Have you lowered your expectations yet?
Good.
It's really just one, big, long-running joke. We'll see what happens.
Most likely I'm going to "lose" LossFest ... but by losing, does that ultimately mean that I got the theme better than the winners?

Production Notes (yeah! I'm doing one this time!):
11-28-08
First idea set, started brainstorming for some plot development. Thinking about casting and who would fit into what role.
12-05-08
Decided on the title and cast the first male lead, Nathan Clauson is gonna be in this one too folks. Now I just need a second male, as well as a supporting female, looking into it.
12-12-08
Trying to think of poster and banner ideas, maybe I'll get someone else to do it for once, spread out the jobs among my friends, outside of just menial labor. I'll give Ryan a call.
12-16-08
Rough draft of script finished, going over it with the rest my "crew".
"It's so unbelievably retarded that i cant help but laugh my ass off." - Ryan Silva
Now if that tag doesn't rivet you into watching this thing I don't know what will! Everyone's having fun with it so far. Trying to balance the day job and this simultaneously, at least there's a lot of downtime when work is slow.
12-18-08
Rewrites to script were made and I think I've got myself a final draft. Finally cast for the supporting female, played by Beth Whitman. I've got a few choices for second Male lead, they're all interested so I'm gonna see who does it best.
12-20-08
Ryan's getting to work on the poster and banner. We got hit here on the east coast with a blizzard! Awesome sauce, this may mean that I have to change a few locations within the script, I'll talk it over with the crew later, when I can get out of my driveway. On the positive side this gives me time to work in some more rewrites and maybe change some stuff up.
12-22-08
Met with Beth to go over the script, she thought it was: "ridiculousness filled with a nonsense stuffing." She helped point out some of the pacing issues I was having and we fixed up a portion where I felt the dialogue was stiff between her character and the lead. Going back in for a few more re-writes then maybe I'll get to work on a shot list and storyboards while everyone's celebrating the holidays with their families. Should be ready to shoot very soon.
01-02-09
First day of initial shooting. Finished a shot list the night before and then woke up at 9am to prep everything for Noon. Nate forgot we were filming so he was late and didn't get to the house until 2pm. Once he got there he decided to tell me he had to get to his regular job at 4pm. Two hours to work with, great. Only day I could use the actress, since she is leaving the state on Sunday. It was an extremely overcast day so not sure if the lighting looks the way I want it, something I might have to fix in post. I made some split-second decisions to get everything done, hopefully they were the right ones, not the best first day and I'm not really happy with how it went, it didn't feel fun. Oh well, have to find another day to work on the rest of this stuff, moving on...
01-06-09
Second shoot, things went better, got a good chunk of the opening done and finished an earlier scene. Just in time too cause then the weather went sour again and got some freezing rain. With the weather bad I'm gonna start working through the footage and then wait patiently for the weather to clear for one or two more days of shooting, pending re-shoots, and then can just focus solely on post-production. I'll try to get some stills or BTS stuff up later.
01-10-09
Started editing in Post and I've got one scene completed with no SFX and besides that I already need to go back and re-shoot a few scenes because there is absolutely no audio and that just won't do.
01-13-09 -> 02 - 05 - 09
Delays ... Delays ... Delays ... Ready to shoot someone
02-06-09
On the verge of murderous annoyance, I Finally got some work done on this sub-par film, the ending is pitch perfect to the rest of the film and was very amusing for all those involved as well as myself, it felt good to laugh again. It's good to be back on track. A few issues with continuity arose so have to do a few re-shoots on the final scene. Getting close to being done with this though, excited to work on something else. Won't be able to get my second short into the fest though, not enough time ... instead gonna take it slow and make a solid, well made short on my own time.
02-17-09
Getting down to the wire but good news... Initial Filming is finished! Finally! All my attention can now be focused on post-production. Already seeing some audio issues that need adjusting. The fun really just keeps on coming.
02-25-09
Filming - :-Mark-14(DBG)
A 6 min cut - :-Mark-14(DBG)
Coloring - :-Mark-14(DBG)
Lack of sleep - :-Mark-14(DBG)
All I need is to do some audio work and then score the thing and I'm done ... its come a long way from the challenges I was having but no worries, I haven't had to sacrifice too much and it remains as foolish as the day it was conceived.
03-02-09
FINISHED!
All post production is OFFICIALLY DONE on this entry, I don't have to worry about it too much anymore, thats not to say that I won't keep tweaking the color and sound till the day I have to hand it in but my attention is no longer focused on it. Now everyone can get a little more dumb watching my entry come the 9th of March. Enjoy!

The Cast:
Nathan Clauson --- as Loser #1.
He has acted in my past two entries for DVXuser, first as a minor, near faceless doctor in Out of Time and then as the lead role in last fest's "controversial" CAGED.

Hal Blackwood --- as Loser #2
Who the F--- is this guy?
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8527/ireland04024flipyj6.jpg
Beth Whitman --- as "The Ex"
A good friend, Beth agreed last minute to be in this film (unwillingly? perhaps but that is yet to be seen) and I caught her right before she left for Philidelphia. Her screen time may be short but her character is integral to the plot so it was important that I get everything with her done in the timeframe I had.

Ryan Silva --- as "The Guy"
Ryan hasn't been seen since his lead role in my Timefest entry, Out of Time. During Twilightfest he mainly helped me behind the scenes but now he's back, albeit in a considerably smaller role.
http://www.dvxuser6.com/uploaded/34810/1231657088.jpg
Dan T --- as "Random Dude on Phone"
Quite possibly THE MOST IMPORTANT ROLE in the whole short film. Depending on his availability he may be seen more often sometime in the future. Dan, being the kind of guy he is, was also a big help behind the camera.

Haha, I totally agree with Zak. I'm glad the music and the dialogue/performances kept the dim-witted humor rolling all the way through. This was just a lot of fun to view. It certainly has a style of its own as well. I was definitely a fan of the color palette and presentation. It was low-budget without feeling like someone pulling a "Be Kind, Rewind" on us.
Nice work, sir.
EDIT: Also, the excessive play on the word "lost" was just fantastic. It reminded me of Austin Powers and his quips after killing an enemy. Even the clever "scene was" bit had me rolling. Was it actually lost, or was it comedic effect? Unless already stated earlier in the thread, I'm leaving it as a mystery that takes a stab at formalities. Bravo.

I tried, but I can't say "too hard" is the right description... was just a single gag that we built the rest of the movie off of and stretched out for 6 minutes. Trying to hammer in "loss" until it become unbearably absurd. (There's actually more that was cut for time constraints)

This film had a sort of "Dumb and Dumber" kind of charm to it.
I liked the two "losers" and their journey/escapades were funny - especially trying to retrieve his broken heart.
All the different variations on the word loss, was very clever.

I'm sorry but I just didn't like this one. The WRITING and the acting just killed it for me. Don't be put off by this review though, because I see you've had plenty of positive feedback and you're never going to please everyone. I just felt I owed it to you since you took the time to make it and I sat through it to give some kind of response. It could be that I just didn't get it or this just isn't my kind of movie.

Blaine, there is no need to be sorry and your honesty is appreciated. I didn't make the film for anyone in particular to like - just an idea that I ran with and beat it into the ground - so I can fully understand your distaste. It's not for everyone. Dudes I really didn't like this film. I've been trying to come up with a positive review for it to point out some of the things you got right and maybe help you fix the many many things you got so wrong.
Thing is, and this is important: I found myself laughing at times. I didn't want to. I wanted to flat out hate this film, because I personally cannot stand movies like dumb and dumber, and this was an extremely low budget Dumb and Dumber.
That means that you;re doing something right, and that's being GENUINELY FUNNY.
Get a DP, do LOTS of rewrites on your scripts and raise your production value and you guys could be contenders with a nice looking film. Right now you;re just the funny guys running around with the camera.

Got some chuckles out of me. You went out and shot something.
There were some things that bothered me. I couldn't understand some of the dialogue during the phone conversation. The zoom in from the wide shot when they were burying the body was kind of campy but if that's what you were going for...
This is one of those things that just is what it is, and that's not a bad thing. It was a fun ride. Not Oscar material but that's okay because it looks like you guys had fun making it.

Truth be told ... I don't know if I can be funny again, or if I try how funny it will really be - it sort of feels like a fluke at this point haha. You guys are nuts. I see I made your quote wall .
Don;t worry, you CAN be funny again. It's just a matter of taking that absurdity and designing it to be more absurd or just beautifully absurd. You have a great knack for it, so play with it, shoot it for practice, see what works, and then go shoot it for real. You don't have to spend a ton of money just to have a well designed film. By all means, do so: get some good lighting, a DP who knows how to shoot comedy, and some actors (get the pretty ones, but keep your focus on the people who are REAL, the ones we can relate to), and you'll find yourself being constantly surprised. When you let a good actor go crazy with it, it's amazing some of the awesomeness you'll be able to capture.

HA hA! This is the film I wanted to make. Thank you for doing it. It looked like a lot of fun. My favorite part was the car-jack. Hilarious. Maybe some more punches next time? :)
Keep it up.

I think if this movie was better technically executed, and in general the shot comp and continuity was better it would have been awesome. There were too many distractions to be totally immersed in the story for me. It was funny. The one guy is hallarious (the one that thinks everything is lost). Still though awesome job that ya'll got something this funny and this complete finished.

quite Possibly the most disturbing film of the fest.:Drogar-Dum(DBG): I laughed my a$$ off.
I woke up at 6 am because my son is an early riser. And I said I need to see something funny. and I watched this. and now My head will be screwed up for the rest of the day. thanks Killoran.
awesome flick! 3 cool scenes- punching the guy out for his car, the heart on the girl's door and ringing it to death, and the missing scene. yeah, it was a mess technically, but so what, it was freaking funny! go make another one already!!

Lol, cute. And the winner with the word "lost" used most in ANY film ever goes too......! :)
I liked the lead (who had lost his keys, etc.) the most out of this, and I got some good chuckles throughout.
Technically, obviously there's a lot of room for improvement, but I would only list those if you asked, as I saw else where in a thread that you had kind of put this together more to see if they'd actually accept it (absolutely, fits the theme perfectly!), so I don't know what you actually TRIED on, with regards to technical achievements, and what you were okay to let slide.

By all means, list away

I mainly just wanted to make something absurd and everything else took a backseat to the idea However, I was trying to get something that looked good but limited resources and skill really show in the end. Originally the plan had been to make 2 films a really long-running joke (which this is) and a more serious piece. Obviously the serious piece never got off the ground in time due to a number of reasons and I was left with the joke.

Everyone! We... LOST.
That's the last last one, I promise
I'll be the first to admit that this movie is not very good, a low-brow, simple in-joke that can only be fully understood by those aware of the fest that is then stretched out, I mean talk about beating a dead horse, there was no way that was winning. I had fun though. Glad I could give you something absurd and foolish for 6 minutes to enjoy and the feedback was priceless, I really appreciate the comments, its what makes the fest for me, helps me to improve. Here's hoping it sinks in and I'll hope to see everyone again in the next fest.
THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING!
