for some reason, footage being played back looks very blocky, but only on a connected monitor, or through P2CMS. footage played back in FCP looks fine.

i'm using the 170, even settings across the board, cine v or b. press and recording 720PN or 720P. monitoring using a panasonic 17" and/or nebtek via HD-SDI.

i first noticed the blockiness playing files via P2CMS and freaked out, put the card back in the camera and saw the same thing on the montor, really freaked out then pulled the clip into FCP where it looked fine. that was 2 weeks ago. new job, same thing today.

anybody have an explanation for this?

is anybody else even seeing this? perhaps it's a playback concern limited to my camera.

I have only heard about this in playback from FCP. And only in certain situations???

i'll try and post some frame grabs / shots to illustrate what i'm referring to. it's odd. when i'm viewing footage via HD-SDI into the 7" nebtek while shooting (or the 17" panasonic for that matter), it looks great (as it should coming off the chip). but playing it back looks much more 'digi' and pixelated (on both monitors, though it's worth noting they are looped together).

playing back the same files in P2CMS also looks the same (lower quality).

it's only when i get them into FCP that they look as they should.

i wondered if for some reason the camera wasn't playing back the full res file or a proxy of some type? i've never had this issue before with an HVX, it's only come up with the HPX (although i can't remember having looked at it as closely).

barry - jan? any technical reason this might occur? does the HPX playback the full-res native file at a data transfer rate that should have it hold up fine?
