Just wondering how to go about doing long takes with an HVX200a redrock rig with a steadicam and no remote follow focus. We have a follow focus but not remote. Anybody have any experience with this. (stopping up may not be an option but the lens size will probably be anywhere from 18-35mm. Also if this is impossible how would it look if we mixed stock for steadicam with redrock for stationary shots?

It generally is not reccomended to do steadicam shots without a remote FF. 18-35mm is very easy to work with so you should almost have infinite DOF on objects past 4 feet, which defeats the purpose of a M2. So you can just stick with the stock lens.
There should be no problem cutting between steadicam shots and static shots. You just need to be carefull and mindfull when designing your steadicam shots. Try to watch episodic TV where they cut between steadicam and static shots all the time.
Hope this helps.
PS: There are more affordable RFF systems coming out, check out this thread.

You can do it without a remote FF if you're just following someone. Just keep your distance between the camera and the subject the same. It will stay in focus... if you're just following or moving with an object. I've done it, it works, but it's touchy.

I think i might just stick with stock lens and hope for the best. It would be 2-3 LONG takes following a guy around a house and outside and back inside around the house. So It wont be cutting in the same scene from steadicam to stationary so we should be fine.
thanks

its the best collection of steadicam shots. I think it can give you a lot of ideas how to approach the shot.
