I completed a small project that i rendered as a Microsoft avi then burned as a basic NTSC 720 x 480 dvd.

so that being said,

my friend needs wants a copy done for Polish relatives. I understand that Poland 's standard is PAL.

so, my question is can i create a new project with PAL settings, import the avi and then render it out as PAL standard.

and will this play in Poland?

i guess it will work, but don't know, can't really test this.

thanks in advance for any responses.

most likely the dvd player and tv will play ntsc, so you dont have to redo anything.

really ? !

is that because they purchase NTSC players or is this common in Poland ?

Poland is generally uses PAL dvds. Unless the dvd player, the Polish relatives have is a multisystem dvd that can handle NTSC and PAL, they won't be able to play an NTSC dvd.

It is possible with some NLE's and After Effects to drop in NTSC footage into a PAL project but you most likely will have motion and audio problems with some loss of quality . The best way to convert NTSC to PAL is to use a program like DVFilm Atlantis (http://dvfilm.com/atlantis/index.htm). It lets you convert with the optimal quality and gives you the option to go from NTSC to PAL or vice versa. You can download a full-working demo with watermark at the website plus there is a 25% Xmas discount right now.

Hope this helps,
Andy

dvd players are mostly region free(with some early dvd expections, that's why i said most likely), they work with pal and ntsc, and any working tv today (would be "multisystem", lol).

Uh??? While it is true that a player may be region free, the media may not be playable on the TV attached to the DVD player...

I usually only view my PAL disk on a computer, using VLC the 'free' open source program that allows me to cross regions, and SD formats without getting in to a lot of nonsense that seems to be the desire of Hollywood...
