Hello,

I am new to the dv world. I just purchased a dvx100 a couple of days ago and should have it very soon.

In the mean time I have been fooling around with a Panasonic GS200 and now I think I want to get more serious about movie making....

What would really help me out is a few good links to a beginners guide for shooting dv (well actually basic movie making) and the best editing software to start with. I have been using Studio 9 but I want to upgrade to something really good for PC when I get my DVX100.

Also, I have read a lot on this board about after effects, compression tools etc. What all will I need to start shooting and editing?

Thanks and I look forward to learning as much as I can from you all. Like I said I am very new to this and have no experience but in the last few months I have really enjoyed playing around. I even did my first short with the GS200 but I am a little shy to post it here because of all the amazing talent I see....maybe when I get my DVX100 and a couple of years behind me.

Well anyways if any of you can point me in the right direction for good editing software and all the plugins I will need to begin this journey I would really appreciate it. I can upgrade as I get more experienced and make better movies :)

Thanks all.

Hey RD,

For movies try http://dvcreators.net/products/sav.html for they have some varied CD rom programs. One in particular that I've heard great things about is "Shooting Awesome Video" *which covers the basics in all the phases of a production. *Software depends on your budget. *Try going to variuos NLE websites because most of them offer free trial downloads of their editing software. *When you find one that you like and if you are a student or a teacher or you know a student or a teacher, have them purchase the software for you from http://academicsuperstore.com/
You'll save a lot of money. *For instance Adobe Video Collection Professional lists for about $1500 retail, but at the aforementioned you can get it for $600.

Thanks for the link and info.

I think I will check out the CD Rom because I will help me with the basics and Barry's DVD will cover more complex issues. I think I need both.

Keep the reviews coming in about "The Phone" love feedback.
