Hi Everyone. I am shopping for a editing computer and have a few quotes I would like to share and get feedback for. I mainly edit SD but am starting to have large HD footage (45 minute final runtime in HVX200 P2) to work with. I would like to step up to a better PC(!) as soon as possible.: Here are the two quotes. Tell me whatever you think I am spending too much or too little on.

You have some nice specs there in the first quote. little pricey for SD.

Both your specs are a little overkill for SD (IMHO).

My specs

ASUS P5K-E MB

Intel Core 2 Q6600 2.4 GHZ

4G Ram 800mhz

3 320g Western Digital HD

Nvidia Geforce 8600 1g Ram

1- 3 speed cooling fan

750 Watt power supply

Large tower with heat temp monitor and fan speed clock etc, etc....

Windows XP Pro 32 bit (thought I'd play safe for a while)

I run:

AE 7 - PP2 - Photoshop cs2- & have never had a problem,
(mind you I do not edit HD but am quite confident I can).

I usualy run the applications all at the same time while i'm working on a project & it has never bogged down.

Total cost

$1,250.00 a year and a half ago. ( bout $600.00 to 750.00 todays cost).

If CS4 i what you want to run, and you want it to be the ultimate machine, it seems that you need the NVIDIA Quadro CX card ($1700), at least if you believe the hype. I have no expierience with the card but its being sold as "the accelerator for CS4", but seems that its main advatage is in encoding h.264. Useful, but I'd hope for more for 1700... stilll I would love to read a shootout comparing the difference.

as far as proccesors go-
What about the new i7 chips? They are quad core hyperthreaded (which is like 8 cores) and I read that they did away with the frontside bus entirely, which should give faster memory-chip interaction, if I understand correctly. And cheaper than xeon.

I like your Hard Drive setup mostly, but I'd probably add another small drive for audio only (assuming you use a fair amount of audio seperate from your video source). Also make sure you have an esata port somewhere, it will make backing up much faster.

I think I'm gonna go spec one out on newegg...
