Hi all

When done with a project in Final Cut (5.1.4) I do a "select all" on the timeline and then go to the Media Manager in the file menu and save off a copy of all the assets (720p) I used in the project. Seems to be slicker than sno#, which is a good thing.

Burn this folder to a DVD and I'm thinking I have a decent way to make a quick copy of the project. Then I go and test this DVD on a different box. The DVD spins up, I drill into the media folder, drag a clip to the desktop and verify I can play it.

I get audio and no video. Where am I going wrong here? The clips on the DVD have no extension, so I did rename it with ".mov" once I had it on the desktop.

Is there a better way, within FCP hopefully, to collect all of the used clips and save them off to a DVD?

thx
JB

Shane's Stock Answer #48 - See only black video, but hear audio, when try to open FCP captured QT files utilizing the DVCPRO HD, HDV or XDCAM codecs:

Unless the computer you are trying to open this footage on has FCP installed, they will not display video. These codec only comes with Final Cut Pro.

thanks Shane

I can live with the flames as long as they come with some peace of mind.

Is there a better way to easily gather up assets off of the timeline and save them off? I've been casting around and have not really found anything better.

Is this in stock answer #49 :)

Those clips are also located in the capture folder "Final Cut Pro Documents" that you set when you started your project.

Locate the movie files there, and create a data DVD of those.

But they won't play on any computer that doesn't have the DVCProHD codecs installed - which FCP does.
