i cannot for the life of me figure out how to set chapter markers. i seem to be setting them correctly in fcp, but when i create a dvd image in idvd, there are no markers. this is what i am doing:
i am playing around with a 30s clip.
i tried putting markers in these 2 ways.
#1:put clip on timeline, double click clip in timeline, in viewer find a spot to add marker, click M, click M again, click set chapter marker button.
#2:put clip on timeline, in canvas window find spot to insert marker, click m, click m again, click set chapter marker.

then saved as both a quicktime movie and a quicktime conversion quicktime movie.
in idvd burnt an image of both versions.

then played both versions and tried to advance to the next marker like you would do on a reguloar dvd that has markers in it. But the clip just continues to play, as if there are no markers.

Help please.
Thank you.
David

During your QT movie export, be sure to check the drop down that says to include chapter markers. Or just export using compressor. Lastly, I don't use iDVD so i don't know if there are any issues from using that program.

When you export your quicktime with the chapter markers are they visible in the qt movie when you play it in quicktime? If they are they should work in idvd.

yes. in quicktime player, my quicktime file says marker 1 and cues up to marker 1 where i put it from fcp. but when i encode that same file in idvd using "save as disk image" and open up that image and play it in the apple dvd player, it doesnt advance to the chapter marker when i click the right arrow in the dvd player on-screen controller. In contrast, when i play a dvd that i bought at the store and click the right arrow, it advances to the next chapter marker in the movie.

Also, i checked in idvd and my setting under the preferences is to automatically create a scene selection menu when there is a mov file imported that has chapter markers in it. When i import the movie i made in fcp, idvd doesnt create a scene selection button.

im using fcp 4.5 and idvd 5.0.1

getting closer to the problem i hope.

Have you tried burning a disk before you save it as a disk image? I haven't used idvd for a while, but I would always burn one first and then save it as a disk image if I wanted to make more copies.

try exporting with "DVD Studio Pro Markers" selected (not chapter or all)... for some reason that works for me while the others tend not to.
