Sorry folks, I tried to do a search on this, but the only word it would search for was 'memory', which brings up a million less than helpful posts.

I am editing on an 8-core with 8 gigs of RAM running Leopard, using FCP 6.0

I am editing a sequence that is combining 2K, 1080P and standard def (I'm doing a reel for a DP). In "unlimited" RT, I get the orange bars and when I try to render for playback I get an out of memory error. So I switched to "safe", the bars turn red, but I get the same error. I switched my video quality down from dynamic to full, and that didn't help either

My sequence stting are at 1920x1080, 23.98 Pro res 422 That's what most of the footage is, (except the FR of most of the footage is 24P, but FCP won't do that as a rate that I can find.)

I was editing this fine last night and there was no problem.

Any thoughts?

Do you have any stills in the sequence?

If you do, make certain they are RGB, not CYMK.

24p= 23.98 same thing. That's a RAM problem- how much RAM do you have and what storage for the footage? For that I'd go 4+GB It should be a RAID for decent ProRes HQ/2K playback. And also best if you have a Kona 3 card for proper monitoring.

8 Gigs of Ram, and this particular sequence is working form 2 different internal hard drives (not RAID configured)

No stills in the sequence.

So I left my edit station for a couple of hours. When I came back, the Out of Memory Error was still on the display, but the clips I was trying to render were all rendered. So that was weird. But then I moved a clip, ths having to re-render, and I get the same error.

I've never worked in a timeline with such a weird variety of clips before. Is that part of the problem? I have worked with 1080P prores numerous times without this occuring.

Are you running any other programs at the same time as FCP? I would restart, and then run only FCP to see if the memory error comes up again.

Nope. I restarted to try and solve the problem, but no joy.

I took some of the individual clips and rendered them one at a time, which got me through it eventually. But I am concerned with this. This is something that seems like it should go a lot smoother.
