Looking to beef up my graphics card, any ideas or what might be on you wish list ?

Running a G5 dual 2.0 ghz (2 gen)
ATI radeon mac edition 800xt

Get as RAM as possible (4 Gig, may need 64bit OS), and two SATA 10K RPM HDD; these two alone will give you more performance speed than any graphics card.

Also quad core will help the most in renders (you will see 4 buckets during rendeing, if bucket rendering is supported)

I think that's one of the best cards for your machine. There's that one and the nvidia, but I've always preferred ATI on the Mac.

Concentrate on CPU power more than GPU, GPU and video card memory more than RAM, and RAM more than Hard Drive. That will get you on your way for rendering, previewing & textures.

I'm at 6.5 gigs and notice a little hang time in larger scenes in Maya. However I'm also running two 20" monitors. Only 256mb split between them I'm guessing might be why....


I can't remember what card I was looking at or if it was even a card. The one that I saw was in a 3d mag and it was something like 1gig of video ram and I think it was about $1450.00 or so. I might be wrong, but thought that's what I read.



I'm really wanting to buy a new setup, but I'm going to wait until march before I do so. I'm waiting patiently for this Red 3K to come out and to see if the mac will run it at full speed.
