Fiduciary Responsibility

http://www.dvxuser6.com/uploaded/4021/1228529806.jpg

Written and perhaps lensed by Erik Olson. Seeking collaborators in NC and SC. As you know, I've started threads for no less than three Fest entries - and never produced one. I take absolute pride in this record. No excuses.

13 January 2009 - Cast for FR is locked! Thank you to everyone who worked through a long weekend on casting and rewiring my house at the end of a very long day on Saturday. Sucker! I am really pleased with the level of talent we met and had the priveledge to read with. Locking locations after my History Channel shoot in Wilmywood this weekend!

10 - 11 January 2009 - Auditions were held in Concord, NC this weekend. We had talented actors and actresses from as far away as Virginia and South Carolina come read with us. Ultimately, we are the beneficiaries of their time and obvious dedication to their craft. I'm excited to announce them and will ask them to join us here as members and to comment in this thread.

6 January 2009 - Well, it looks like nothing has been happening over the past few weeks if you looked at this thread, so I'll do a quick update. We've been busy filtering through a few dozen resumes and headshots for FR. I have been really happy with the response and I'm looking forward to our auditions this weekend in Concord. If anyone is interested in stopping by, please drop me a line and I'll let you know where we're going to be!

18 December 2008 - Podcast 1 is up on vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/2573996/). I talk about the project, key collaborators and a little bit of the equipment we plan to use on Fiduciary Responsibility.

13 December, 2008 - We've got some new people coming on to the project early next week. I'm excited about their involvement and will encourage them to announce themselves. We've posted a casting notice on Charlotte's Craigslist and look forward to finalizing these roles by mid-January.

Principal photography will be on the weekend of January 30 - February 1st *or* February 6 - 8th, local to Charlotte.

10 December, 2008 - Banners from Matthew!

9 December, 2008 - 2nd Draft is very close to done tonight.

8 December, 2008 - Breakdowns are underway for FD. If you haven't checked out Celtx for your productions, I recommend it highly. For low budget filmmaking, you can't beat the price. If you're familiar with MovieMagic, you'll be impressed with how seamlessly the writing, storyboarding, breakdown, strips, calendar and so on are integrated and how robust the sharing capacity is now. www.celtx.com (http://www.celtx.com) Versions for Mac and PC.

7 December, 2008 - Here is the General Life Insurance Company (http://www.overlandfilms.com/general_life_home) website. There will be some bloggery, video and other minutia posted here as the project progresses.

6 December, 2008 - Working toward a 2nd draft this weekend. We have some good talent working on this and I'm confident the script is better for it. One thing is for sure, there are some really gifted people on DVXUser!

5 December, 2008 - Found some old magazine ads from a company with the same name as the one in our screenplay! Hopefully, they're not around anymore, but it's kinda viral anyway! I gotta fix the other one because the you can actually see the ad on the reverse side through the paper. Hint: The word "Festiva" is easily legible. I guess virtually no one has driven one lately though.

5 December, 2008 - Got the call at about one ayem that I might be off to start work on a returning series for TLC starting next week. Must pack jib and new CamShuttle prototype for possible work starting on Monday. A good problem to have.

4 December, 2008 - First draft complete. This ditty came to me over my fifth espresso yesterday. Two hours and seven pages later - with a brief layover for Chinese food - I had the first draft of FR. I've sent it off to be shot down by some key collaborators.

For the moment, that is all!

We posted a Craigslist casting notice on Friday and we've been receiving a steady trickle of interest. Casting should take place the 2nd weekend of January. I've posted a rough production schedule in the Ether.

Scouting locations today. Definitely a different experience than what we do for reality programming. We've got a major grocery store chain as a primary location in Fiduciary Responsibility, so wish me luck!

Production insurance helps too.

Great first podcast Erik! Great way to get everyone caught up.

I look forward to the casting session. The responses thus far have been nothing short of amazing.

Looks like a recipe book for mixed drinks, like the Mr. Boston Bartender's Guide.

Am I close?

With the bar behind me, one can be forgiven for this good guess! But... still not the answer!

Come on filmmakers! I suppose you could read the cover if I'd bothered to upload the HD version.

Okay, it's the American Cinematographer Manual, but I suppose you all could be forgiven for not knowing it, instantly... on-sight.

:)

I didn't post to chastise though! This Saturday and Sunday, we'll be auditioning about two dozen actors and actresses for the roles of John, Susan and the Little Girl. Very exciting and we're really looking forward to it based on the incredible response we've had.

Hopefully, everyone will show up!

Now, who wants to "loan" us an HVX200-ready Brevis? We need it for February 6-7 and we might be able to scratch up a little rental ¢¢ if anyone is close to Charlotte. We're insured and would pay shipping - unless you want to jump in and help us lens as our operator.

Podcast #2 will be up in a long week and we'll all get a chance to see what some of the NC users really look like.

Auditions are this weekend! We're excited and will be shooting podcast two during our reads. Due to some facility conflicts, we've had to move our Charlotte event to Concord, NC from Charlotte, but hopefully, we'll still have a good turn out.

Fiduciary Responsibility

An insurance agent discovers what happens when his relationship with a beneficiary becomes unexpectedly intimate.

Male / 35-45 yrs. / Caucasian
JOHN: Performance-driven insurance agent à la John Hamm from MadMen. Life is lived one transaction to the next - no personal attachments. Clean, healthy and professional - could otherwise be from another era. (LEAD ROLE)

Female / 32-38 yrs. / Caucasian
SUSAN: The girl-next-door who became a mother struggles to find her bearings after recently losing her husband. Her strength is waning, but she is ever the optimist. Rural life suits her easy beauty.

Female / 5-7 yrs. / Caucasian
LITTLE GIRL: Daughter to Susan, persistently happy, but now more drawn into herself with her father gone.

We're excited to find our John and Susan!

For the role of John, see if you can get in touch with Mark Scarboro. He is the finest actor around the Charlotte area, and I immediately thought of him when I read the description... He appeared in a small role in my feature a few years back, but alas, I have lost his contact info.

Will, thanks for the note. I'll see if we can't find him.

So I drove on down to Concord this weekend and ran into 3 of the coolest guys this side of DVX. Auditions, which could have been tedious and boring, were an absolute blast! Funnest weekend I've had in a long time.

And despite the endless "don't go's" spat by the equally endless amount of children, we actually found some talent in there.

I'm really excited by the preliminary thoughts and opinions, except Jeremy's of course:laugh:, and look forward to nailing this thing down.

Honestly, Erik couldn't have been a better host. He's a patient and passionate person that doesn't shrug off others opinions or suggestions. Eager to listen and indulge.

So what am I saying? Vote Olson/Ordan in 2012! And watch Fiduciary Responsibility come March, with the talent involved thus far I have a feeling it will be worth the wait.

Erik Olson
01-14-2009, 02:40 PM
You're too kind... keep it coming, suck-up! Okay, just to expand on the topic of mutual admiration, I just have to say what a good time it was working with Jeremy and Tim and Matthew, who has really helped to shape the script for FR.

We stayed up until 1am running through ideas that would move the story and characters forward - even trying some blocking that will move us into longer takes and better flow from shot to shot. Good, good stuff.

We locked our cast today and I'll ask them to join us here.

Now, if I could just get some cable service up to the 2nd floor of my house, I'd be ready to unwind from our busy and productive weekend.

Now, if I could just get some cable service up to the 2nd floor of my house, I'd be ready to unwind from our busy and productive weekend.

That... can be arranged. I'll need a lot of useless tools and a tent spike. Oh and don't forget to buy a 10-pack of compression fittings. I never know when I'm going to get a good crimp. :cheesy:

Erik Olson
01-14-2009, 04:56 PM
I pride myself on being exactly 50% efficient. Besides, can you really beat the image of two people pounding a tent spike through a brick wall from opposite sides? I kept thinking we were in a scene from O' Brother Where Art Thou? or something. I had to spend my day with incredibly smart people (genomicists, methinks) to help make up for our misguided dumb-as-a-bag-of-hammers adventure over the weekend.
