I am trying to send .mov's to a client, I am testing the footage, which look great on my computer, but when I put it on an external HD and test on another Mac, the files open but playback black screen with sound only.

I shot some HD 720pn footage with the HVX200. Dumped into FCP on my MacBook pro with QT 7.5, using Duel Adapter and Log and Capture mode in fcp 6.04. The footage dump and plays back no problem. I copied the footage over to an external drive, dumped to a 2 other macbooks with fcp5.0 and no FCP, both with AT 7.55 and the footage won't open. Get's the error message that I need to download more components. Also just plays back black with no sound. Just tried it on a third computer with no FCP and AT 7.55 and it plays fine...

any ideas? thanks so much in advance!

I wonder if the playback computer needs to have FCP 5.1.4. Hopefully others have insight.

pretty sure its a codec issue. Wondering if anyone knows which codecs are needed to support dvcproHD so I can direct client on downloading these?

The DVCPRO HD codecs are only available with FCP. Any machine without FCP, including Macs, cannot view the footage. You will have to compress the footage for the clients...h.264 is good. Or give them the original MXF files and they can install P2CMS (free) and view the footage just fine.

Thanks for helping out Shane...

Will they be able to create usuable .mov's out of the footage? I will not be editing the footage, the client will be taking care of that so I'd prefer to give them something viewable AND usable if possible.

Well what are they planning to edit on? Most NLE's have support for P2- ie. Premiere, Avid, FCP. That would be good to know.
