View Full Version : a lense that fills in where HVX200 leaves off

Hi all

I'm leaning towards a D90 for use as a 3rd camera to complement a pair of HVX200s. I'm struggling with which lense to get on the D90.

At this point, given my lame knowledge of lenses I want to get a lense for the D90 that fills in where the HVX200 stock lense is lacking.

Which one(s) c/would that be?

Options are kinda endless. I mean you can get a wide zoom lens, so something that goes from super wide like 18mm to 200mm telephoto, it would offer a really good range that way. Or you can pick up a 50mm lens with super shallow DOF. Maybe I'm not the right person to answer this lol.

Well 18mm is already better but I would not pay for a 18-200mm because it won't provide a real difference (the HVX200 has already a good wideangle).

It's a good idea to get the kit lens 18-105. It has VR, very important for handheld shooting. But if you really want to get into the extremes, check out the tokina 11-16 f2.8 or a fisheye from sigma perhaps. Then I'd look into macro lenses. The last thing would be tele zooms, becaus camcorders always have a good zoom lense. It's very expensive for photo lenses above 200mm with a decent aperture. Check out the sigma 120-400, that's a start. A good midrange zoom would be the sigma 50-150, very nice DOF.
