Loss fest. Wow... could not be more apropos (for me).
All that “joy and excitement” that I experienced this past summer had been replaced with a lot of reality and work. And a lot of loss. More loss than I ever imagined. A heavy price but it was my choice and a decision I do not regret.
And I am on the road now, FINALLY. My new journey has begun but not in any way that I intended.
What was supposed to be a fun-filled, 19 day journey down I-95 with a visit to Wrightsville Beach Studios, down around the Florida coasts visiting all the major beaches and hot spots, across the Gulf to New Orleans for a few days, a stop in Houston and arrival to Kyle, Texas (just south of Austin) in time for Thanksgiving with my parents... turned into a “job” as I traveled 2100 miles in 60 hours. In a 30’ RV towing a 14-1/2’ trailer! Not fun.
There were several dvxusers that I intended to visit and many more that I had not yet contacted. (guess I am glad that I didn’t make more plans!) But I do hope to make up for it some day. (I am not completely “through” with the East coast, lol.)
errr, what does all of this have to do with a new film by me for Lossfest, you rightfully ask?
Well... I’ve been out of touch here for a long time and I miss this place. I really wanted to be active during the last fest, but to even watch the films proved to be nearly impossible. I have been through a lot in the last 30 days. And the 30 days BEFORE THAT were even worse! Talk about life. Wow, I had it all.
(Back on topic, Ted!)
Right.
I want to make and enter a film for this fest. And I hope that I can find a way to do it.
I will be in the Austin, TX area until Dec. 26th and then off to Vegas. I will remain in Vegas as long as I am enjoying myself and then off to LA. (SF area in the spring)
So, I’ll be making this film “on the road” so to speak. A title will come soon.
And I would LOVE to help on anyone’s film who wants help. If I am in your area, lets shoot!
I promise that “actual” information about a film WILL appear hear soon.
Thank you for reading.
I hope to meet many of you as I travel through. Starting with the Central Texas dvxusers!
Happy Holidays and cheers!

So are you planning on doing a documentary type thing then or just get different people along the way?
Good to see you're on your way with the move though. It's about damn time. :)

I know, I know! Seems like it took forever to get out on the road. So many details to tie up before closing a 19 year chapter of my life.
As for the doc-idea you mentioned, that was my intention all along.... to grab quick intros and interviews with dvxusers as I traveled. Now that I lost the entire east coast on my way here, my heart kinda left the documenting idea.
So... I don't know what's in store. I do know that I want to focus on achieving that elusive "film look." I am going to get it one of these times.
...
Wes, Mike and all... thank you! It is always great to visit this site. I have missed it.
And I have missed the filmmaking bug. (amazing how much crap I've been through since I left the set of O2!)
Thanks again all. I am very excited to be a part of this fest and really look forward to a lot of shooting experiences. So, hit me up if you are shooting and I am around.

hahaha.... that's been my problem! Tough to find time to concentrate on a film when there is so much that I can suddenly do!
But I will shoot something for Lossfest. Been jonesing to make a film.

Dudes, I wish I had some vid to share. I have to get on that band wagon.
I tell you, the delays in getting out of NH and then booking my butt to Texas in unbelievable time really killed my ideas of blogging and journaling the adventure.
And now I am sitting in my parents house feeling like a kid! (what a way to re-start my life, huh? apropos though)
But you have inspired me. I will start what I originally wanted to start... down here in Texas. And the first dvxusers to be featured on TedAhead.com will be the Waco crew. I am going to meet them on their turf this Saturday. (sorry to the guys that were expecting my tomorrow. My Dad took the day off to spend with me since he has to work both Sat and Sun. I hope that you all can still make it on Sat. I have the entire day so even if I meet you in shifts!)
Thanks for the encouragement. Podcast to come!

No, not yet. The 20th and the 22nd have been tossed out as possible dates.
As for a location... not yet. I hear that Luis has a great place. We are working on him!
I'll keep you informed.

I had a great visit in Waco with the boys down here. Dustin Rogan, Gary French, Jason Spinos and his wife Becca and Matt Bravo all came out for my visit.
After dinner we sat down to tape a podcast entry. I will be working on editing and posting this soon.
I had a great time and look forward to meeting other dvxusers soon.
(for more info on the Waco visit, see my thread (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?p=1488818#post1488818) in the Cafe)

Just an update for those wonder about the podcast... well, I am shooting these on AVCHD cameras and am experiencing the woes of a new format.
I did purchase a new Mac Pro before I left to have the processing power but I don't have FCS2 on it yet. And iMovie sucks! OMG... I hate this program. Unless someone can tell me how to do 2 camera cutting with iMovie, I am going to have to wait until I return from NH. I think I left my software in storage. Cannot begin to tell you how frustrating that is! At least I am going back to NH this week.
I do think that I will shoot a single camera segment and put it up before I head to NH. The Waco interview may have to wait until xmas time.
And I will talk about my Lossfest entry!

No, not yet.
I did buy a pair of Canon HF100s. They are tiny. Perfect for setting up in my RV for Pocasts and traveling with my Harley.
I do still intend to get the hpx170...

hey Ted,
i was just browsing through the film threads and i found yours. i don't know the scope or details of your recent experiences with loss, but i just wanted to drop in and let you know it's good to have you back, and i hope everything is working out for you.
you were absolutely the most helpful person to me on this site, way back during Drama Fest, when i was a "newbie". i appreciate all the help and encouragement you gave to me. i don't know if i properly thanked you then, but just know that it meant a lot.
ok, enough of that... i see on the map that Clearwater was on your list. someday, whenever you make it down here, maybe we can do lunch or something like that, if you'd be up to it.
good luck with Loss Fest, and in your future travels. Godspeed!
