Hello,

I am new to this forum and Nikon Cameras in general. I decided to get the d90 after reading the sticky thread here.

If this question has been asked before, I apologize. I did try multiple searches. I might not know the right terms to search. Either way tough luck, here is my question anyways. :)

I want to set the picture controls so that I get something as close to the look of film as possible. Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking for that 70's look. Like what I see on Jack Bauer's 24 shooting.

thanks ahead of time!

that would be more post production than anything...
you can try to get that look in camera via ViewNX and using custom curves, but proper color correcting and grading would yield better results than custom curves.

Adjustments in ViewNX(Car3o you've experimented with this right?)could get you a less contrasty look the D90 has naturaly, and give you more to play with when color grading.

I haven't mess with custom curves yet.I'm going to need a card reader.
Unless one can access the the SD card for that purpose thorough the USB?

Yeah, I've experimented with custom curves and to be honest, if you want less contrast look go with standard and neutral...I shoot with those more than anything. Plus they give off less noise(to my eyes).

You do have to get a card reader, cause Nikon for some reason doesn't allow you to upload the curves directly to the camera. I still plan on uploading my curve when I find time. But I found out that the default ones were practically the same. If you want less contrast and more saturation like the vivid preset, you'd have to make a custom curve...which, I think I'm gonna try tonight. I'll upload these eventually.
