hi,

i want to shoot a little commercial with the canon,
i live in germany and i want to use hmi`s and flos, so
i have to shoot at 1/50 that i wont get any flicker...
is this possible? or will i have to use halogen lighting?

when it comes to the canon, i think it's a bit like the d90 in terms of shutter speed. you probably have to lock the exposure when there aren't any scrolling lines. though, it may do it automatically...no idea...that's my guess.

I read that the shutter speed on the 5dmk2 is constantly variable, that is, it doesn't change the shutter in small descrete steps (1/30 - 1/40 - 1/48 - 1/50 - 1/60 ) like the D90.

If that is the case I assume the shutter always will deviate from the light frequency, unless it got some smart algorithm which recognizes the scrolling lines and matches the shutter to the frequency.

I got a few minutes with the 5dmk2 on a photography fair. I couldn't see any scrolling lines, but then I don't know what sort of lights they had in the Canon booth either.

Crucial question.

I'd be VERY happy with an available 1/48th-settable shutter speed in the D90. But my bet is that they'll stay with "traditional" still camera shutter speed intervals, completely "forgetting" any cine-applicable shutter speed intervals. While I'm wishing, a settable 1/120th shutter speed (in addition to the already-expected-to-be-there 1/60th "traditional" interval) would also be handy (to eliminate 60Hz "hum bars" under flourescent lighting), at least in 60Hz countries. C'mon, Nikon . . . THINK!
