i have a scene where somebody gets knocked unconscious, i want the screen to go black...currently i just added another clip and turned the alpha all the way down. is there a way to just add a certain amount of black space?

leave it blank. no clip at all. other option is to fill it with slug.

or you could just do a fade to black by using a cross dissolve and slug

Render>Matte filter too.
