I currently own a Sony HDR-HC1E however I've been considering upgrading and buying a new camera to shoot my short films in. I've been shooting in 1080i with this camera however I'd like to be shooting 1080p or 720p (which is allegedly "better" than 1080i).

There's so many options out there and it's a little overwhelming trying to choose one. I've come across the Panasonic AG-HVX200 which has appealed to me. I'm looking for a camera in the £2,500 - £3,500 ranges, that can deliver great quality for my short films in High Definition.

And additional note, I'm also intending to use a 35mm DOF adapter on the camera.

Any recommendations?

I'd recommend the HVX200a or HPX170

The HPX170 has most definitely almost appealed to me. However, my question would be; Does it drastically differ from the Sony HDR-HC1E and how?

There is no comparison between these two cameras at all.

As to how, research HDV versus DVCProHD, 4:2:2 versus 4:1:1 color space, and 25 mbps versus 100 mbps.

Also, 3-CCD versus CMOS, rolling shutter versus global shutter.

HPX170 is a whole other class of camera. Different ball game, different players.
