Wow this camera has it bad when at its widest setting.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can shoot full body shots in a smallish (20'x12') room without making the door frames look like they are orbiting a black hole?

post a still to show what you are talking about. It's got a wide lens for sure, but I don't see too much distortion...

Here you go. Not white balanced, Low light, lots of noise (yuk)

You might try to fix it in post

Hm.. I'm not sure dude by how do you adjust what wide setting you want? I didn't know you could do that.

That is just the nature of wide angle lenses, you might be able to fix it in post. If you can back the camera up and zoom in you will eliminate the effect.

Fix it in post. Thats a lot less distortion than I get with my wide-angle lens on my HV20 or some of the still photo lenses I've owned.

take 2 steps back if possible.

This would require me to walk through walls :)

I know that this ttype of distortion is common, I've just never seen it to that extent before. Maybe I've been spoilt by my 35mm Canon lenses.

I was sort of astonished at the distortion as well... but I'm debating at the moment if this serendipitous finding is not an advantage for my film... it does lend for a a slightly jaring, out of whack feeling which I hadn't thought of before hand...

Anytime there are straight lines near the edge of the frame when using a wide lens, the lines will appear concave. If you can't physically move the camera then you could use a pincushion filter in post to correct some of the distortion.

The other option is to raise the camera up to a greater height, or lower the camera to a lower height and shoot from that angle which will help distract from the effect of the barrel distortion by using depth.

try the century wide angle, it should keep everything straight if you zoomin a bit to match this fame, not a cheap piece of glass...

you could always buy or build a 35mm adapter to eliminate this problem :)

Im actually more astonished at the white balance than the distortion, if anything, that color is slightly jarring.
