Everything looks great from within Onlocation CS4 but the QT created creates very strange artefacting.
please see a screen grab here http://www.studio9.tv/images/onlocation.png
I have tried capturing in QT (all frames) & QT (selected frames).
Everything captures fine direct to Quicktime, Final cut pro straight from Camera. Have used second camera, same output. Used different machines with Onlocation. Have done 4.01 update also. nothing changes.
The properties in Quicktime are showing 720P/60
Am i missing a dvcproHD codec for Onlocation?
i tearing my hair out.....any other ideas?
not to sound too desperate but first solution before Monday 09:30 GMT gets a DVD of their choice sent to them as a thankyou as I have a big shoot where i need this as the only plausible backup for recording.
using Macbook pro, hvx200 with P2 cards inserted.

I discovered the same artefacting occurs in both Onlocation and imagine products' HDlog
It can't be Onlocation as exactly the same things occurs in HDlog. It must be a codec / software related problem.
My artefacting problem still hasn't been solved. I ended up using QT pro for my big shoot . Worked great except it doesn't do any media managment or scopes for you.

I'll try to clarify the problem at hand.
We're experiencing a similar problem at our studio, where a HVX200 is connected to our new iMac via firewire400. Connection is great, at OnLocation displays the signal. No problem there. The videosignal is displayed in the Field Monitor, and the scopes, audio are all functional. When a stream is recorded in OnLocation and attemted to be played back, it shows some kind of stutter alike the screendump previously posted. Furthermore the files are dismissed by Final Cut Pro in both Log and Transfer and drag-and-drop.
Does anyone know anything about any codecs needed to solve the problem at hand? We've tried all the different recording modes available in OnLocation - problem persists.
Anyone?

I just finished a job, but we were shooting a 720 24p, going through FCP on a MBP capturing onto e-SATA drives and P2. Both the P2 and firewire footage looks great.
It could be that your drive is not fast enough. Is your drive a 7200 rpm drive or faster? I don't know how fast iMAC drives are. I was told you need to use 7200 rpm drives at a minimum. Again, I use eSATA drives only that run at 7200 rpm and transfer at 300 gbs.
Also, make sure your capture settings are exactly what your settings are in the camera.
720 24p in the camera should be DVCpro HD 720 24p in your FCP capture settings.
Both setting should always match exactly.
Hope that helps.

Hey Augment, did yo ever get an answer to the artefacting problem?
I experienced this today: video's recorded fine and OnLocation could replay in excellent quality, but when I open the files in Quicktime they look scrambled like this:
http://www.behold.be/ScreenScramble.jpg
In the meantime, I've updated OnLocation and the new clips don't have this problem anymore.
Is there ANY way of recuperating/supporting the 'scrambled' files in QuickTime/Final Cut?
Any hope for them?
Cheers, Victor

I'm experiencing the same problem when the camera is in 720p (25, I'm PAL) mode. If I go to 1080...no problems...all works.
I also get the exact same results using Monitor Magic (from bigmugsoftware). 720p = no 1080p = yes.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ok...Just updated to OnLocation CS4 4.0.3.003
Firstly the clip now exports and is playable (where as before it couldn't even do that)
The clip loading in QuickTime 10 (i'm OSX 10.6.2) has the same problem. If I load it in QT7 it works no problem. As an aside QUICKTIME 10 is terrible anyway...this is well documented!!!
Loaded fine in to FCP as DVCPRO-HD 720p50

If you are viewing these clips using the QuickTime X player, there are problems.
How do they look viewing them in the QT 7 player in Snow Leopard? They should be fine.
