Well, I bought 2 hmc150's and I got them for 3200 each. But I think thats because I bought 2. Bulk price I guess because everywhere I would contact would give me the 3500 price then when I told them I was buying 2 they dropped it to 3200...

3200 aint bad. You should merchant them lol. Buy 100 then sell them individually for 3500!

Contact vendors for a quote, ask them to quote you any other accessories you might be buying too. You will get a large discount for buying everything from a single vendor with the exception of the Panasonic SD cards. Do not buy these they are way too expensive, I use a Transcend 16GB class 6 and have no problems or you can go with Sandisk, they did invent the media after all.

B and H has a great price and I like how prompt they are.. how you can reach people right away and just their service has always been awesome.
That being said, AVsupply out of San Diego... the people I bought my HVX from, have the best price I've seen on batteries. Talk to Barbera. She has the big batteries for 140 or so... and that's about 20 bucks less than anywhere else I've seen.
if they had it in stock I probably would have bought the HMC150 from Barb... she really was great to a lot of HVX people...

I bought my HMC150 from B&H last week for $3400 because I didn't have to pay for tax, then I found out that Adorama and J&R had it for $100 less. So I called B&H to price match and they made the price adjustment! Way to go B&H. But J&R does offer free shipping.

I ordered two batteries from them based on your recommendation. Barb is great. Very very friendly and willing to help. They are currently out of stock, but they'll receive a shipment this Friday (Dec. 12, 2008). They told me my batteries will come to me Monday or Tuesday.

People!!!
Do do have to pay tax unless you live in a state, such as Oregon, which as no sales tax.
There are few.
You have to pay a use tax. It isn't worth the savings of a couple of hundred dollars to go through an audit.
Just a heads up.

I have heard some good things about a DVXUser advertiser, Andrew at Spec Comm sent an answer to some questions I had with the HMC-150 as follows:
I think that you are making a great choice.
With the efficiency of the AVCCAM codec and the way that it samples the frames within the GOP, I think that it will out perform HDV any many different levels, especially with motion.
I think that you will be happier with Vegas 8 rather than going with Pinnacle. I'm not very familiar with either though so you may want to ask the Vegas Guru, Barry Green on that one. I'm an Edius fan boy.
The LCD does flip! So bring on the 35mm adapters!
I can get you the HMC150 for $3395 with your choice of a free 4GB card or a Coverlens system. See our store ad for details.

The best price from a Panasonic dealer is usually MAP or about $3400.
Call for a possible lower price.
Only buy authorized.
And the prices haven't dropped because of the holidays.

This seems like a sound strategy for some:
Tell them u want them to price match ggvideos price $3195 Free S/H
Buy the extra 5800 battery from B&H 174.00 (cheapest I could find that had it in stock). Buy a UV filter from ebay cheap. I bought 2 Panasonic 16gb sdhc cards from thetwistergroup for like $80 each. I wil buy the 16gb sdhc Trascends on newegg for under $30 for the rest of my cards.
Got Panasonic SDHC card reader on ebay for 30 free s/h
that's all you'll need for this camera. I can't wait to test it at the MX track!
Merry Christmas to all of you!

SDHC readers sell for 99c, 30 bux is an rip off. Search good around ebay :) And you don't NEED it to be Panasonic, it's just a memory card reader.

Yes.. scammers for sure. I love resellerratings.. Have saved me on a few instances. I know that Barb is the same price as B and H, and or will compete. She's a really cool person, very honest and good to deal with. I didn't buy from here at the time, as she was out of stock so I bought it through B and H. I highly recommend Barb and will buy from her again. She follows up with you and makes you feel special about buying. The local guys here in Orlando were such jerks.. that I decided to never buy anything through them again and certainly never send them any bussines..

Well, call me old fashioned and in some cases you would be correct. In others you would be wrong, after all I shoot with an HMC150 and a DVX 100b before that. When I can I always buy locally and I try to support my neighbours. When they annoy me I say so, as the head honcho of Panasonic Broadcast Canada will attest.
Anyway...I suggest you find an authorized dealer close to your home/community if possible and if not then find one and support that business. ANd for sure support the business who support DVXXUser they continue to support this community that we all enjoy and learn from. They will know you are aware of the prices out there and in most cases they will work with you and keep you as a client/customer. Kinda like you do with your clients or should be doing.
I think it is important to remember that relationship building in the community is crucial, especially now in what many are referring to as "difficult economic times" or recession. The few bucks you save going here or there may not be much help when your camera is down and all you have is the music on the phone while you are on hold.
So sure shop around, be smart and try to deal local. The big boxes do the volume thing, but it is unlikely that they will know your name....depending on the P.O.S. software of course.
Just my two cents....

I agree with you Brian. Buy locally whenever reasonably possible. You want to support the folks that can give you local service and supplies.
The point at which I depart from the "buy locally" is if there is compelling reason to do so. In most cases, buying locally gives you the peace of mind that the guy you bought your camera from is a few minutes away and can handle any problems (assuming he's reputable). In my case, the closest dealer for the HMC150 is 50 miles away. In addition, the return policy is 10 days/store credit only. I talked to him about it but they could not budge on their policy. I don't really blame them, there are dishonest folks out there who would merely buy the camera, use it for their event and return it rather than renting one. But in my case I needed the peace of mind knowing that I'm covered if the camera just isn't cutting it. B & H offered 15 days satisfaction guaranteed. I'm not in a financial position where I can make such large purchases very often. If I'm making a $3600 purchase ($3200 on one item) on a piece of equipment that I've never used before, I want that peace of mind knowing that if it came down to being completely dissatisfied with the product, I could return it if I had to.
Or if the guys act like jerks toward me...........
Justyn

I always want to buy locally and I Do. I hire locally too and want to support all Florida filmmakers. My dealing though with the local Orlando companies has been so tenuous and full of frustration. Because I'm not dealing in 10's of thousands of dollars, my calls didn't get returned and I was actually hung up on by one local guy. Couple with this, when I first bought my HVX.. they were 1500 dollar more than what I got it for at AVS. They weren't even willing to come anywhere closer to it.. and then when I didn't order through him, he called me a scumbag and that. I think there's an inherant, screw the local filmmaker mentality here in Orlando. For so long, they have been able to screw corporate clients, screw Hollywood companies, and then just transfer it over to the locals. Orlando is not a very "indi-friendly" town.
BrianMurphy

Ouch!
Perhaps, you should edit your post Justyn and put the name of the retailer in Orlando out there for all to know, especially those folks at Panasonic U.S.A. who say yes or no to who can be an authorized dealer.
Where I come from we say: "What comes around goes around." and "together we can make a difference."
I also think that the "big guys" are feeling the heat. The industry as they know it, is changing at warp speed and the private domain of the $ix figure biz is evaporating. Your generation is conquering and consuming and creating mediia at a rate nobody could have ever anticipated. Some get nervous ..some nasty and protective and some of us old surfers just enjoy the new wave.
Fight back....build community don't take any sh_t.

01-25-2009, 07:42 PM
Indeed Brian. I hear all of that. I don't think anyone would bother to deal with these guys, but if anyone is in Orlando then I'd be happy to respond via PM.
It is a changing world and will continue to change. You can see it already with the DSLR world. Everyone can afford a nice camera these days, and to what end? Poor photographers and a flooded marketplace..
Here we have a down economy and a flood of film students who'll work for whatever, and get out of school with 75k in debt. It's just stupid to pay that for a film education...

I think I may have picked the right place to buy from, regardless of price, as I think I found a problem in my HMC that I can't seem to solve. I posted about it in the Technical forum and it may just be something dumb that I missed in the settings (I've only had the camera for 3 days). But if I can't get it solved in a few days, I am going to be awfully glad that I bought it from B & H, regardless of the price.

I'll do the HMC-150 with two large batteries AND an 8GB SD card for $3195. I'll ship you the camera and one battery and then simply fill out the rebate just announced from Panasonic:
Purchase a Panasonic AG-HMC150 from January 20, 2009 – March 31, 2009, and get a VWVBG6PPK Battery and an 8 GB Class6 SDHC card in the Mail! (An over $300 Value)
could I get this same deal if I came to your shop in austin? I'd much rather buy locally, I couldn't imagine forking out the money for it and having to WAIT for the postman! Not to mention that's just an awesome deal.

Hi
I just wanted to let everyone know that I bought my HMC 150 this week from Phil at Texas Media Systems with that deal and I was very happy with the service. The camera was shipped very quickly in 2 boxes, and it is always great to be able to reach your salesperson easily, rather then being put on hold if you buy from the larger stores like B and H.
I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to buy a Panasonic camera. Thanks Phil!
