View Full Version : FCP Crash

All of a sudden, after printing 3 HDV shows to tape, FCP doesn't wanna do show 10.
First of all, at the 12 minute mark in my project, there was audio loss while printing to tape (I always monitor video and audio when I print to tape in case of a screw up)
So I checked my project, and in the timeline, it was fine! I don't know the problem.
I tried copying and pasting into a new timeline before printing to tape, and I've tried quicktime conversion before printing to tape...But no use.
Here's the major issue: I'm trying to do it once again, and now when I hit print to video, it does the usual conforming which takes a while...But now, when that happens, FCP crashes. I re-opened it, tried again, and FCP crashes.
Is there anything I can trash or restart with my MAC/FCP, without losing any thing important?
Any help would be appreciated!
Robbie
Hello Robbie,
Have you tried the old "trash preferences" routine?

I haven't done this in a while, but I think FCP will ask you to re-select your presets once you re-start FCP (no big deal.)

Now, this won't ruin/change ANYTHING? And are you sure of it? :)
I got important files........So it won't ruin anything?
I'll def, give this a shot!
Thanks,

No big deal at all... cept for loosing any favorites and all of your shortcut mappings.
What you want to do is use FCP Rescue. Use it to SAVE a good set of preferences and then then you have somewhere to go to use backup preferences. But anyway, if that doesn't solve it I'd look at trashing your render files and forcing a re-render of everything. Are all the shows in the same project? What computer are you using?
Are you using the print to tape feature or are you doing a crash record?

I'm on 4 gig RAM, iMac, with a 3.06GHZ processor...Using 500 gig firewire LaCie hard drives.
I was thinking it was something to do with the render files actually..
I tried show 11 for fun and it printed to tape no problem.
It's just show ten, that won't start up, and FCP crashes.
I'll try this trash thing, and I'm glad nothing will affect anything, but one question: Will I lose any effects? (Glow, vignette, bla bla)
Thanks,
Robbie

Could be you have a corrupted file in there. Any chance you had some CMYK graphics???

What's that, Mench?
Will I lose any effects (Glow, Vignette) when I do this method? I tried searching for "glow" in my finder and couldn't find the plug-in, but I use it all the time. I want to copy it just in case..

You won't loose any effects, no.
CMYK... if you have any photoshop graphics that weren't saved in the RGB space that can cause FCP to now work.
Are you using PhotoShop graphics?

Yes I am. I've had SO many troubles with them to, making me re-save them in a different format. Why the HELL would this make FCP not work :).
Sometimes I'd grab a raw photo file, either it being PSD or PNG, and FCP would make it all wonky.

Exactly.
Change them to RGB and you'll be fine.

In photoshop change it?
I just trashed my prefs.
I hit command 9 and should this be the correct setting, for when dumping to tape? Cause I hate conforming..

Robbie,
If by "dump to tape" you mean "print to tape", then I would change your FCP settings to match the tape format.

Well, they are, If it's been working for other shows, why not this one?
Anyway, I finally got it to work..
Thanks,
