Hi everyone,

Finally the Scene File page is ready for use. It has taken a very long time, longer than I thought it would. There are 118 files total for the current P2 cameras. They were created by DP Mike Caporale out of Cincinnati, and I really think he did a great job. YOu will need to register to down load any of the files but you will only have to register once.

Let me know what you think,

Weird. So go to panasonic.com/broadcast. Look along the right side of the page and scroll down. There is a link there for the scene files.

Keep in mind that you will need to edit the files in their repsective headers for those cameras that are not HVX200s but rather 202, 205 etc. Be very careful to follow the header formatting or it will not load. FYI, the 170 files and the 200 files are not interchangeable. If you chage out the header to read the other camera. it will load but you will have some very strange looking video.

Have fun.

Are these files also for PAL regions?

Jan_Crittenden
11-27-2008, 10:24 AM
You could use them but you will have to edit the header within the file to look like what your camera would write there. So save a scene file on your camera and look at it. Copy and paste the text identifier at the top of the file to the top of these, should work.

Oh and I went back and fixed my link.

Jan

yes it works for PAL. first the settings manual values are written behind the hex files so you could hack them in by hand, second you can do as Jan says and just copy the data BELOW your camera identification number or below <F1>.
I am now compiling a set where I have the first of each files inside a new file and can have 12 different setings in 2 text files. since each of the downloadable files changes framerate and keeps the other settings, I can really try out 12 settings before deciding which ones to use.
This settings download page is GREAT !!!

So, I'm trying to figure out possible uses for the scene files..... i take it that the DIGINEG is probably the one that will allow best and the most accurate color reproduction? So, I'd probably use this one in an Interview setting, correct?

The NATURAL is the one I'd use to capture beautiful landscape shots, correct?

I have a question regarding the NATURAL scene file.... If I used this combined with a Polarizing filter..... would the blues/greens be too saturated?

No they are not directly interchangeable. With some patience and work you can adapt 170 files into 150 files.

Hmmm... How come there's such a big difference between Barry's Filmic scene file and Panasonic's?... Barry?

Jan_Crittenden
11-29-2008, 03:54 PM
Because Barry did not create these. These were created by another DP who has a different opinion of filmic than Barry. Pick the one you like or make a mix between them. Any scene file is a starting point.

That is because the 3000 is one lovely camera and those were captured off of the AVC-Intra Codec. All of the scene files were recorded and then captured.

Hope that helps.

Question/clarification on the frame rate codes:

The example scene files here use code 34 for 60fps. However, in an older thread regarding the frame rate hack, code 35 was indicated for 60fps and code 34 was for 58fps.

page: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=53032&highlight=hack&page=3
post: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=511238&postcount=28

Is there a corrected list?

BTW: I'm having fun building my own scene files.

Thanks, Jan... Just wanted to know why Barry goes with such a low master ped (-10 or something I believe) and Panasonic a 0 or -1? (I could be screwing up the numbers a bit). Just curious... Barry?

Hi,

SDX900 files are still on the web at:
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/sd_scene_select.asp

HDX900 files could be made on the camera with the numbers from the HPX2000 files.

Hi Jan.
I have a question...it might be something I don't understand yet...but when I read the explanations on the website it says that every look repeats and FR will change from

1-default
2-24 fps
3...
4...
5...
6...

But when I look at the text it has 0000500F: 0 ; FRAME RATE: DEFAULT in all 6 positions..

Is this something I have to change myself? it will not be any problem to do so..I just want to undestand well..

Thanks

Arno It doesnt actually change your iris setting. I'm no expert but I tried the basic settings of this on my HMC150 and i feel its job is to turn almost everything that doesnt have direct light in a dark scene to black. so what ever is lit seems brighter??? as the setting is just a lowered MP and cineV.

I just downloaded the HPX170 files opened the text files and input the settings manually into my 150.There are a few differences and settings we dont have on the 150 but the core scene file settings are the same.

Not as easy as loading them via SD card but I have no idea how to rewrite them to work in that way with the 150 all though Barry G. states it could be done with some patience :)

I couldn't get the Velvet file to work. ( it won't show up in the camera)
And after some looking around. I saw that at the top of each the text files.

It said Ver 1.00-00 AG-HVX200P , and in Velvet it said Ver 1.00-00 AG-HVX200A (punchy had the same promblem, maybe more.)

So just put the A back to a P and everything should be fine.

You must be looking at the HPX170 files as the frame rate can be changed on the User buttons. This is in the direction on the 170 download page that the frame rates are all the same because of this feature on the 170.

If you are not looking at the 170 fi8le, please identify which file and camera you are looking at.

Hi Jan.
thanks for answering. Hope I didn't take to long to get back.

I'm a bit more clear of my question now. I have a HVX200A and downloaded the pana scene files. I uploaded them...if I swicth though F1, F2, F3 and so on...when I go inside the menu they all show, FILM CAM, FRAME RATE 24FPS....AND RECORDING FORMAT 720P/60P

Is that how is suposed to be? or am I doing something wrong? I thought they were suposed to change FR from F1 to f2 to f3..

please explain..

thanks an sorry to bother..

anyone else is welcome to answer ...of course ah

All the six files are the same although each scene name is different...

All the scenes are FRAME RATE: DEFAULT

Hi,

I just asked Mike and he said that when he created ADDSTP he was thinking of it being used primarily for adding more exposure room and with that thinking it seemed that adding frame rates would alter that. Certainly you can add those yourself by loading into the camera making the changes and then saving.

The filmic one looks like there may be a mistake and to correct it would be fairly simple on your part. Load the file and change your frame rates on the individual scene files and then save it. I am having the guy look through them all and if the frame rates are the only thing that is a problem it is a very minor problem.

Thanks,

Jan

Hey I am just confused on the last step of bring the scene files into my HVX200. I go to card functions, I see the scene files, but how do I get the scene files to load onto the camera?

Thanks

While in Card Functions, Load the scene files, it will display the four that you have on the card. Move your cursor to the one you want to load and then load them again with the confirmation dialog.

Best,

Jan

Got to the init function of the scene file choice or the user file choice and use it instead of load or save.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Ok I am not following here. I have two scene files loaded on my SD card, put it in my camera, go to card functions: scene file - yes. Then what? I have : file select, read, write, the 4 files, and title reload. I cannot highlight the files, only to rename them. I am sorry to bother, but I am just missing something.

I'm right with you Chris, I just got my 200a and am having the EXACT same issue! I hope somebody responds to this soon. I don't understand either.

Use left/right to select which of the 4 files you're going to access, and then go to "read".

I guess it just wasn't working for the first scene file I tried. I got another one and it works great.

Has anyone done this successfully on an HPX172? I'm changing the bit in the header so it reads

'AG-HPX172EN
SYSTEM FREQ:50Hz'

instead of

'AG-HPX170P
SYSTEM FREQ:59.94Hz'

but when I put the SD card back in the camera it can't read any of the files...

look at the headers of your original scene files and copy those

Yeah, that's what I did - I copied and pasted them.

fritz

Ok, I got it working. When I pasted the headers it didn't work, but I tried leaving the header alone and pasting all the stuff south of the header instead and that worked.

Awesome scene files, especially loving the looks of nature and velvet. I entered both into my camera manually as I can't seem to find my sd card anywhere but I am unable to change my v detail freq to thick for the nature scene file..whats up? Cheers.

Jan_Crittenden
01-06-2009, 03:27 AM
There are some things that are in the scene file that really don't count if you are doing HD, but they have to be there or else. Thick is one of them. If you were going to move this to an SD world and were not going to do a film-out with the SD(can't imagine even doing this) but the thick setting would give you less ringing on an SD monitor. So don't worry about it and enjoy the scene file.

Jan

Hey guys;

I downloaded these files but before i transfer them to my 200E, i recognize that these scene settings are for 200P camera, which is NTSC i guess(and i am in PAL region). What should i do?Will it work if i change the frame rates manually on the .txt file?

Thankx

Yes, change the frame rates, and change the 200P to 200E in the header at the top of the scene file.

A question: to use these scene files wirh an hpx171 camera should I change the syncro scan value too?

In my scene files I have this string

00005002: 4A026801 ; SYNCRO SCAN :

in the scene files I've downloaded I can find this string instead

00005002: BE026801 ; SYNCRO SCAN :

Should I change the string in every scene file downloaded according the hpx171 string?

Thank you in advance fro the answers

in the scene files I've downloaded I can find this string instead

00005002: BE026801 ; SYNCRO SCAN :

Should I change the string in every scene file downloaded according the hpx171 string?

Thank you in advance fro the answers

Gary

I think you probably should. Go through the 171 and set scenes to the frame rates you want, save that on an SD card. Then substitute those synchro scan codes for the ones in the scene file download files and then it will do the frame rates you want. They were maded for the 60 Hz cameras so small adaptation for 50Hz.

Best,

Jan

Thank you Jan. It is what I've thought when I have compared the two files. In fact syncro scan values are different in 50 Hz country

I try immediately, thank you

I download the Velvet file last night onto my laptop. I noticed that there were six settings which were all the same except for the frame rate (Default, 24 Frame, 12 Frame, 18 Frame, 48 Frame and 60 Frame).

I’m going to film at 720/24P so which ones do I really need to put into my HVX200A would it be the frame rate: 24 Frame or do I really need to put all of them in? I’m going to do this manually instead of the SD card since I don’t have the card transfer to read the SD on my laptop.

Since we have 6 stops on the dial (scene file 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) can I put in a different setting for each stop (Filmic scene file 1, Velvet scene file 2, Close up scene file 3, Punchy scene file 4, Crispy scene file 5, Nature scene file 6) or does all six scene files need one setting – for example Velvet. Thanks for any input.

Corine,

They aill all load. Do not tamper with the file or it will not load at all.

To do what you want you would need to carefully cut and paste the scene files from each of those others into the spot required. The reason I did not set them up that way is that I have have customers inadvertantly change the scene file knob and now it is doing something else.

So, I hope that helps,

Jan

I downloading scene files. I noticed that depending on what scene file (Velvet, Crispy etc...) you have you can shoot in different frame rate getting nice slow motion look but not all the scene flies? I like how flashback looks but it would be nice to have slow motion in that one. Also there is only a few that has Thick but most of them have thin in V Detail Freq. Isn't thick used for film look?

Frame Rate Slow Motion;

Softar – no
Closeup - no
Addstp – no
Flshbk – no
Olphot – no

Fpsfilm – yes
Crispy – yes
Nature – yes
Velvet – yes
Punchy – yes
Shutfx - yes

I'm sure it has been answered somewhere on this form but just in case it hasn't this might be a question that some would like to know.

If you want the Variable Frame rate once the file is loaded, then go into your menus and make that happen.

Thick is a Standard Def selection.

Very Cool. I was able to take the setting that I like and put them on one scene file (SCENE1) I have flashback (2 setting), Punchy (2 setting), Velvet (1 setting) and Shutfx (1 setting).

I was wondering if I'm shooting with Shutfx which would be the normal shooting range;

24-10
24-180
24-350
Thanks

Hey Guys,

Trying to use these scene files and they are not showing up on my card. I downloaded them from the site. I followed the instructions on the right. Insert card, format card, save each file (TITLE1 was default, also tried SCENE1, and of course 2,3,4), ejected card from camera, put card in reader in MAC cpu, deleted files on card, renamed files & copied them on card, put card in camera and it says there is nothing on the card.

Please help, shoot in an hour!

Thanks,
Sean

First format the card in the camera. Save a scene file to the card while it is still in the camera. Take the card transfer it to the computer. Then save the new scene files with the SCENE1 etc nomenclature.

Good Luck

That's what I did. Didn't work

Jan_Crittenden

Then you will just need to look at the numbers in the file and transfer them to the camera manually. Sorry, there is something that is not going right on your end. We have downloaded these about 50,000 times a month and for the most part they work, so there is something about your individual setup. So open the file see what the settings are and copy them to the scene file in the camera.

Good luck,

Jan

I mean the camera formats the card fine and when I save the files, in the cam they show up. Then when I pop it into the cpu they show up on the card. So what am i doing wrong? Isn't that what you're supposed to do? I delete them from the card. I rename them EXACTLY. Then copy them on and when I pop the card into the cam is read NO FILE????? Is there a missing step here?

Could it be that I have the HVX200 and these are meant for the HVX200A?

It's more likely that you have a 200E or 200T or 202 or 205 (european or japanese 200, or asian or japanese 200A). The 200 and 200A (american models) use the same scene files.

Barry_Green

Save your scene files out to a card, examine the text file created and tell us what model number is showing in the text file. THat'll be the clue to why the Panasonic USA files aren't working in your cam.

Yeah I have the 200T. What does that mean? I can't use those files? Is there another thread for outcasts like me to obtain some scene files. LOL.

Thanks.

Hi,

All you need to do is to save a scene file on your camera to the SD card. Then go to your computer and look at the header. Copy that header over top of the desired scene file header so that your camera can read it.

Hope that makes sense.

Best,

Jan

So I copy the header from the SD card (Camera Scene File) over to the scene file header that I downloaded? I think I got it! Thank you so much!

I'm using a PAL camera, if I change the downloaded scene files from AG-HVX200P to AG-HVX200E. Could someone remind me what frame rates the PAL 50hz camera accepts? I guess I then go through each txt file and edit the frame rates to compatible equivalents??

I tried to add some scene files to my 170, but I must have done something wrong, as now all 6 scene files on my dial are ADDSTP.

How can I remedy this? Did I lose the factory presets?

Barry_Green
09-22-2009, 09:54 PM
The factory presets are always available to you, just go to load/save/init and choose "init".

Thanks. I got that. But what did I do wrong when adding the files from disc?

Barry_Green
09-23-2009, 08:48 AM
I don't think you did anything wrong, I think those scene files are designed to all be the same, but each one has a different frame rate.

Oh, I see. Then, what if I wanted to replace only the default CINE-V scene with one I like on that Panasonic site? Do I have to edit the TXT file?

Is there any way to put four different scene file from the panasonic site onto the camera at once for quick access on the rotary knob?
I have only managed to get one scene file on there with several frame rates.
I suppose I can access the others one at a time from the card, but I'd like to have them at thumbs reach. Ideas?

Hi Barry,
I have got a HPX172EN. Will these Scens files work for my camera as well. I compared both the Files. The main difference is the first line defining the Scan rate. One is BE..... and the other is 4A..... If I change these program lines and copy the other settings as it is , will it work for my camera?
Thanks,
Buddi
